You bring up good points man, I get where your comin from. what I don't get however is .. I started running high speed in the 80's and that group plus most other racers were out bein crazy, sure sh*t went wrong but nobody sat around bitchin about it or trying to solve safety issues for others. Every one of us knew what we were messing with at those speeds.
I hear loud and clear that none here want to see their friends hurt or dead....but all this rule making and regulating won't change the fact that it's a dangerous sport.
Hence the "shut up and run" from previous1977 Hydrostream Vector 2.5 Promax

When I started in the 1970's, we were so tough that when you crashed and died we just left you. Let the locals recover the bodies in the fall when they drained the lake. Figured the dead and injured didn't have the right stuff anyway, so we just got new buddies.
This is why no new boating laws and regulations have been written since then, and why so many communities welcome us and encourage us to maim and kill ourselves. They just can't get enough of the mayhem
So everybody quit bitching.....and SHUTUP AND RUN

Thanks for the civil response. However I dont see the rule making as trying to change the fact its a dangerous sport. Ive said it before and so have others. Until you've watched your friend die and lay on the bottom of the river because he and she weren't wearing a vest you couldn't possibly understand. These people are hoping to teach others from making the same mistake. I see your avatar says "dont tread on me" and youve made other posts about "obama being gone" and "nobody is going to tell you what to do anymore". I share those same beliefs bro but this is not about control its about common sense. If you choose to act this way over this subject then you are also missing out on some great friends and great times. I encourage you to open the mind a little

You say you started running hi perf boats in the 80's. You were born May 16 1981. How were you running hi perf boats back then? With your parents? If so maybe they kept the bad things from your eyes. Maybe we are more alike than one would think. Hers a pic of me in 1978 in my dads boat when I was 10 years old. I used to race his friends by myself because I weighed less LOL!! Notice the life vest im wearing. Although its too big and wasn't a lifline. The attempt for safety was there and for good reason

SMELLS LIKE DEAD HORSE IN HERE!!!!

This post isn't directed at anyone in particular, its nothing more than my take on it.................
I have been guilty on MANY occasions of not wearing a vest when I should've, it's not something i'm proud of, but something im working on personally. Looking back I feel more foolish for not wearing one than I ever would feel for how I look wearing one (they hide my fat nice). If your initial intent is to go out and make fast runs, whether at an event, sandbar racing, impressing someone, or whatever, then use your head and please wear one, you wouldn't play football in the NFL without a helmet would you? (some of you clowns would).
I'm not sure that every time my motor is running I need to have one on but 95% of the time im cruising below 35 mph, I try to be honest with myself and make that choice based on my intent of my ride (again, use your head, only you know your intent). Your boat, your choice. If someone happens to ask me to wear one, im probably going to do so out of respect for them and the people around me, and im a stubborn dude. That doesn't make me a better person than you for wearing one, just a safer person. Ultimately its your choice. You can decide if the consequence is worth it or not.
Ive never lost family/friend in a boating accident, but it doesn't need to go that far for me to be more conscious of wearing one. Just putting myself in some of you guys' shoes who have lost someone is enough for me. Having kids has also changed my motives.
I agree with a previous post on this thread stating that these threads seem to only pop up when something happens at an event..................that's ok though, if nothing else it at least puts it in some of our heads next time we're out in the boat, whether it be alone or at an event.
Cheers

Besides saving your ass , a good life vest can hide your big belly and make you look slimmer.
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

Love the pic!! I have to go looking for some of mine. At 7 I was put in the seat...barely reaching the pedal of course, of a 12' mod v w/a 50 johnson of course the group kept a close eye, but learned to hold it on the pad around 70mph at that age.
Of course like all others I consider those the glory days. I've seen people flip, sink, etc.too, but we helped out and kept running.
As far as threats...It was not my intent to threaten, simple voice displeasure over so much commotion. Id enjoy a beer and boating conversation with anyone here1977 Hydrostream Vector 2.5 Promax
