How Best To Mix Gas and Oil

While fueling up, is it better to put the oil in the tank first and then fill with the appropriate number of gallons of gas or put the oil in last when you know exactly how much gas you've added??? If you put the oil in last, will it still mix thoroughly enough? Problem is I'm not sure of the accuracy of the fuel guages and don't want to put too much oil in first and then not be able to add enough gas>>
    Thanks for any replies!!!

I used to put oil in first, and if I couldn't put enough gas in for the oil, at least there was plenty of oil in there, and not the chance of it not mixing well enough!

Now I just take two 6 gal. cans to the store, and mix it for 6 gals.

If I need to completely fill up. I take 3 - 6 gal. cans.

That seems to be the solution when you have small amounts of fuel to deal with..I have twin 60 gallon tanks, (I think, LOL, ) so until I'm sure about the quantities I'll have to be cafeful.. When I have the time I'll be toting 6 gallons cans from the local station.
    Thanks !!!

Get a funnel with a strainer and pour the oil into the funnel together with the gas.

That also would be okay if I were dealing with limited amounts of gas. Remember I said I have twin 60 gallon tanks. I'll probably, for starters, use a gallon of oil and then add 32 gallons of gas on each side. This should keep me going for awhile..

A good funnel will take the gas PDQ and depending on where you buy gas, a strainer in the bottom can make it worth the small effort. Plus you don't spill any oil on the deck trying to hit the fill hole I don't remember where I got mine but something like these from Jaz will work nicely.

i found an acurate way is to out in 6 gallons and add a 1/2 quart of oil, then aonther 6 and so on, or you can do it with 12 gallons too.

I've always added oil after the gas and don't think there's a problem. The only downside is that you've got to be sure you leave enough room to get the oil in.

    Thumbs up BC1

I've got twin 60 tanks and the funnel works just great. Just poor oil and gas at the same time. I mix 1 quart to 12.5 galloons and so on until the tanks are full. No problem!!

    OIL mixing Method

I clean out used 20 oz. plastic Coke bottles and fill them with oil for the ratio I want to run. Each bottle holds enough for 5 gallons of fuel. Pump in 5 gallons of fuel - add one bottle of oil - repeat until full.

The oil mixes with the fuel this way very easily.

    50:1 - 13 oz. per bottle

    40:1 - 16 oz.

    32:1 - 20 oz.

It may not be the BEST way, but it works for me. I hope this helps.

Another excellant idea.. In fact, I just did similar with 1 quart oil containers that have the markings down the side. Filled a bunch with 24 ounches to mix with each 6 gallons of gas.. I think I'm good to go!! *(fast)
