Is running Alyson Less than zero weight bad for a lake river boat in the gearcase.
I have a 225 Promax that is a lake/ river boat - is running the Alyson < 0 weight an issue at all?
Appreciate any input guys.God, Country, and Fast Boats

They have tested it in high load race conditions and it lives on and on. Very good product that frees up hp. Call them and get the full story

Everyone I know who uses it for racing checks / changes it very frequently. I don't think there is much of an issue with lubrication, it's more of an issue with lack of protection against rust if there is water intrusion. Bottom line...if you run Mercury Hi-Po lube and you get water intrusion from a leaky seal or whatever, it will probably be ok if you catch it in a reasonable amount of time. It will rust in a hurry with the Alisyn. In addition, you aren't going to gain any performance so it's just not worth the risk imo.

I agree with Stratos. I ran it for a few years in a bass boat and changed it regularly. I broke a prop shaft and had to go through l/u. When I got it apart found the pinion gear had started pitting like hardness coming off of gear, suspect it got too hot. Not saying it was because of allisyn, but needless to say I'm back to useing the Mercury oil. It's hard to beat for longevity.

I used it for a while its good stuff but as Stratos said change it regularly and you should be fine. i changed mine every 3 or 4 days use and no issues and gained a mile an hour or two. I use merc all the time regularly for every day running and change it about every 30 days and the last case lasted over 15 years 10 with me. It only spun the shaft off inside still mint! if I was going out one day with boats faster than me i would use it to keep up better and spin up faster. if i was the fastest boat any way I wouldn't bother with the small hassle. So I would say its nice to have around for those days when ya think youll need the little extra ease of spinning the prop. But really with full fuel and a passenger I would just use merc and not worry about changing it for a month and know im protected. Or Pennzoil same stuff basically.

Appreciate all the input, I know back in the 70's my Dad ran tranny fluid in his gear cases when racing, I had run the Alyson for years with no issues, but thought I'd ask the question and see what you all thought.

I have ran straight marvel mystery oil in several lowers just for a race. If you change it at the end of the day it works great. But for river riding I don't think you can beat merc hipo gear lube.
The evidence of poor quality lingers much longer than the success of meeting a budget.

Not sure how to take your question FMP - sounds a bit sarcastic, but giving you the benefit of the doubt, yes I had used this for many years, never any real issues but my boat never stays in the water and some years only hit the water a few times ( 4 or 5) I was talking with someone and they didn't think it was a good idea for me hence me asking the question on here as I value input from those that know more than I.
Does that answer your question or are you looking for more ?God, Country, and Fast Boats

I sell a lot of it and have never had bad feedback. Ive heard different stories from 0-5mph gains.
Ive also heard of cutting off every other waterpump vane.13' Biel tunnel AKA "Flight Risk"

Ray Neudecker ran it in all his and all his customers fishing boats like any other lower unit lube. If Ray says it was good, it was good.

No doubt it's good stuff, but don't think it's a good idea for recreational use. I run and love the two stroke oil. I ran the gear oil for a few years and thought it was wonderful. I surfaced it on a heavy bass boat and made plenty long hauls at and around 7000 rpm really putting it to the test. All seemed well. But when I went into lower, I found a bad reverse bearing that was pitted and pinion gear that had spots like pitting on it. Lower was fresh with new bearings and gears shortly before I made the switch. May not have been allisyn s fault, may be coincidental. I went back to Mercury because never had any failures with it. For racing- can't be beat. Recreational not so sure. It also changed color much faster than the Mercury oil. I'm still in experiment mode, if I loose a gear or bearing with Mercury then I'm just torturing the poor thing and something I'll have to live with and I'll go back to allisyn.
