Setup setup setup!!!!
Its all in the setup. Power is great but setup is where its at.
I have two props and did a little comparison after running the Suwanee.
30 Performance propeller ET copy 90mph at 6950rpm
32 Performance propeller ET copy 101mph at 6980rpm
If you looked at both props you wouldn't "see" a difference.
I stopped and talked to Rich at Leading Edge Propeller on the way home because I was a bit baffled. He pointed some slight differences in the two props. The 30 is stock and the 32 I actually bought used and it had been worked for an Allison I believe.
Ill post some info after he takes some good measurements. He felt the 30 should run 95mph if made to match the 32. Thats 5mph just tuning a prop. It would take about 20 peak HP to attain that same 5 mph.
Just wanted to reinforce that we spend a lot of money and lose reliability turning these motors as hard as we can. They break and we lose time on the water. Get your setup optimized and your prop tuned by a pro. Most of you are lucky because you have boats that have a lot of things tried and proven. Dont underestimate researching and trying those options.13' Biel tunnel AKA "Flight Risk"

Brent picked up 7 or 8 a few weeks ago getting one of my wheels reworked two or three times (no better test pilots then he and Mike working together-they are like detectives searching for that last mph).

I dont like buying props used, You never know the real history of it and you can waste a lot of set up time.

The BEST prop I've ever found that works well "out'a the box" is a Promax!
Of course they're small barrel over the hub but they come with a ton of rake and cup and there's little else can be done to'em.
Of course they can still be tweeked a little and sometimes a little can make a diff.
The best thing I've found if you're running a High Perf Eng., with the factory relieved exhaust is to drill 4 more PVS holes and go with all 8 holes open to gain holeshot as there's not as much ventilation through hub as the standard lower!
The acceleration is awesome with a Promax and they carry a V-hull well!WillySteve Hendricks

couldn't agree more with the original post. I found about 7-8 mph with my old stratos 200vt ski playing with props and setup. it originally ran 77 mph when I first installed the 225 efi, and eventually made it to 85 mph. I believe there was more in it

I wasted time with used props too like all of us have done at one time or another. Mazco is the way to go in my opinion

It depends on what you're tuning for...more bow lift, less bow lift, more stern lift, less stern lift, different handling characteristics, ect.
Prop guy can add cup, remove cup, add rake, remove rake, pitch up or pitch down to an extent, etc...
Sometimes the blade is thinned, sometimes a portion of the blade is removed. Edges can be sharpened and reshaped.
It's an art!Josh Peterson
