    How to fight liberal media?

Just turn off the damn TV! Last few years, I have gone from cable/satellite to just an antennae. Now, I seldom watch tv. No real news, and just bs liberal message shows like "modern family" on it anyway. Since this decision, my productivity level has gone thru the roof. Try and go without it for a week to start. See how your life changes. And yes, it was a real fight to get the wife to try, but even she agrees that she has a better attitude since not being deluged with the bs programming.

    Couldn't Agee more

My wife and I haven't had a TV for about 10-12 years.
We get our news from selected sources on the web.
When I do get front of a TV, it j just reaffirms that we made the correct choice

I agree with what you're saying, but it brings up (what I think) is an even bigger problem.

When I was kid, cable TV became widely available... and for $9.99/month you got television without commercials. Then after they got about half the country to buy into it; they started sneaking commercial in, between the shows. Now, there are more commercials on our $200/month cable channels than there ever were in broadcast TV. If you DVR through the commercials you end up watching 20 minutes of (possibly decent) television and 40 minutes of commercials.

I just don't think a human brain can process and resist that much targeted psychological manipulation without becoming over-stressed by it. They try to scare you into buying, they try to shame you into buying, they try to guilt you into buying... and your brain has to try to resist 40 minutes of their tricks every hour you watch.

The decision was easy when I saw even our local tv people displaying their biased liberal views.

It's actually a lot more than just the commercials.

The "entertainment" TV shows, movies and commercials today are programming/changing us, ( And NOT for the Better) )and more importantly our children/grandchildren with "today's" acceptable behavior. If you have been around for a while, you can see changes that have been "programmed" into us over the years. I don't like the changes.

They don't call it TV programming for nothing.

My wife and I moved out of our subdivision home and into the country with 100 acres. Television? I ain't got time for dat! In the last six months since we moved, the ONLY thing we have watched is the Olympics and the Final Tragically Hip concert. Put up an Antenna so we could get some local channels and that's it. We honestly believe watching TV changes your brain. Insert tin foil hat jokes here but the less TV I watch.... The smarter I feel!

I would have to disagree for myself. I have a pretty nice home theater and the wife and I really enjoy our time with the TV. Certainly I am more particular about what I watch. But there still are many good things on to watch these days. I also have a little collection of movies and we spend many winter weekends watching older movies. Especially since they don't make many good ones these days. When a good one does come along I will add it to the collection.

Nothing like watching a great movie with a sound system that makes you feel like you are right there. Pause it any time you want for food, drink, or bathroom breaks. (Which are more now these days.) Don't have to put up with crowds of people. Have not went to an actual outside theater for at least a couple of decades. I would never regret one penny I have spent on my system as it has provided countless hours of fun and entertainment.

So for us, I would not want to give up my TV as it is a diverse source of entertainment for us.

Get out in your boats, go work on your boats, go buy a boat, go sell a boat, test new props, work on your motor, work on your trailer, work on your lift, get on a motorcycle and go for a ride-anything but sitting in front of the idiot box...

Great points from all. The idiot box is 97% crap, but I do enjoy some classic TCM or sports or a car craft show. I bit of humor is also welcome. And then there's Maude... you remember the left lol.

Oh I get that, I have a projector with 120" screen, the full home theatre deal. More invested in that than my boat... Only movies and such though.... no "Television" anymore.

I get you. Size does Matter! And frankly yours is bigger than mine! HA HA! Good for you. Seems like interest in high end audio and video is fading. I know it can be expensive. I have always been a Pioneer guy and in the last 20 years Pioneer Elite. But the market seems to be steadly shrinking, Pioneer bought out, and more and more of the higher end equipment disappearing. Really Sad.

Going Back to the subject of the thread - How does cutting yourself off from all media benefit you? As for me, as long as there is some news network out there which provides at least some percentage of the truth, (Fox) I will watch because I want to know what our government is doing. I get info elsewhere too and I like to know just how much the other net works are lieing as well. Seems to me that cutting yourself off from news sources just plays into their hands of having an uneducated public which is as bad as the people who watch nothing but the mainstream lies and believe it.

    OK.....
When the news is nothing but lies what do you lose by not watching. The crap nightly shows with the life style of the avg American as a pc correct wuss. Integrated families the norm. Women beating down guys at every turn, promoting social change which no one in their right mind wants, and the seeming acceptance of illegal acts and disgusting hate speech by rappers and not to mention the illegal aliens being shown as cheated out of a good life in the USA. I won't even go into the daytime shows like springer, dr phildo etc. TV is poison. If I had a little one now, we would have no tv in the house.

I doubt many want to be uninformed, "cut off from all media" so to say. But DO wish to not listen to rhetoric and double speak.

IMO... most of the current media that is nation wide broadcast has no more truth in their broadcasts than any sci-fi movie. They are more like the rag mags at the check out counter in the grocery store. Their "news" blows which ever way their owners want. Effectively swaying their followers to their will. Just look at the polls.

For example can anyone honestly believe that the election is even close at all? I do not see much support for HRC anywhere, yet the race is almost tied??

IMO... the best thing that ever happened to us is the internet and the access it gave us to do our own research, especially news events.

Fox is a little better than the left liberal media outlets.

If one listens to lies over and over....pretty soon one will begin to believe those lies. jmho

It ain’t so much the things we don’t know that get us into trouble. It’s the things we know that just ain’t so....

"Cut off from all media" isn't quite accurate, we still follow current events but usually via internet. I like to look at all sides of an issue.

I can't argue with anything you have mentioned above but there are many things on tv, cable, or sat that are worth watching. Just the way I look at it.
