    Merc Inline 6 ignition wiring

I am putting a hot foot in and the manual didn't tell if the white ignition wire goes to +12 volts to run or is it ground out for kill. I don't have it connected to anything right now and there is no spark. I don't want to put 12 volts to it and fry the ignition module. 1975 1500

The red has 12v all the time, white gets 12v with ignition on,green goes to coil, and brown feeds the old quicksilver tack.Move the brown wire to a yellow stator lead connection in the rectifier to use an alternator driven modern tack,Chris

That's what I was thinking. I needed a second opinion before I wreck stuff. Thanks!
