I would totally rock that. I think it's awesome.
Didn't most of these boats come powered by the strange horizontally-mounted outboard-powerhead stern drive? It was a very strange (and very unreliable) idea of using OMC V4 powerheads mated to stern drive units.

I would love to show up at an event with that boat, though!

Yeah, they made that setup with V-6's too. I worked on several of them when I worked for Paigo Brothers in Miami years ago..... a few old colored dudes had them.... They kept them running top notch. The ones I worked on didn't have distributors on them, they were standard type powerheads with modified intakes for the carbs.

Boat in add was designed by Harry Hillman. The V6 of that vintage was a Buick rated at 155HP. The V4 outboard was built from 62 thru 68 starting at 80 HP in 62 and then going to 88 and 90 they were 89.5 cubic inches, it was designated a model 480. These engines were also oil injected. The 480 had a smaller lower basically that of the 90 outboard.

Personally I never saw a 480 without the belt driven ignition and the boats books dont show it, but could have been done.

We took that 90 front half and remachined it to fit the front of a 73 135. Added fuel injection with a belt driven Merc mag and ran it on alcohol in a midget race car. Engine did not use a flywheel since they were push started. At one point the car help 6 track records.

I had a neighbor when I was a kid living on a boat in Miami Beach. This guy took a 235 powerhead, laid it horizontal (intake on top) and built his own gearbox and stuck it in an old Indian motorcycle..... That thing had some torque....
