    Ultranautics Sportstar

Hello! Picked up a 1990 Ultranautics Sportstar last week to mess around with. It has a 50hp Tohatsu and an aluminum prop that I can't find the pitch markings on it. The boat wants to porpoise if I give it ANY trim. Where should I start? Weight in the bow? Raise engine?

A pic of it from this weekend and the 4th of July parade we participated in.

    Ultranautics sports star

I just got one of these really loving it I have a merc 50 on it running a 11 pitch hitting 49.5 rpms it runs about 45 no trim 48 to 50 with trim starts to China walk around 47. I also have a larger tank in the back and about 80lbs of battery and anchors and misc stuff. My motor has a pretty nice kick back mount and a decent size whale tail.

That's a really cool looking boat. I don't think I've ever seen one before. Very cool!

Thanks. I've been looking for something <14' that would seat 4-5 people; came across this on craig's list and snatched it up.

Yes, you're correct - although I can't confirm the HP jet they used. According to what I could find on the internet they only built 50ish or so in the outboard version. Not sure what stopped the production. Boat seems to be built reasonably well. The boat is actually titled as a Suzuki.

Now that is interesting suzuki I worked for a dealer that sold tahatsu engines and got to admit they worked we put them on pontoon boats in salt water and they worked real well. Looks like the passengers are having a great time and soon down the road they will be borrowing the boat.

It seems to run well. Idles pretty good. Hole shot response is lacking IMO. Revs to 6000 WOT. I think I'm propped low which scares me because the hole shot is already weak. Could probably use a carb rebuild/cleaning.

I keep telling my wife I bought it for the kids

We use to sell them in jet and outboard power, we put a 45 Honda on one you could punch it from a dead stop and the second hop it would launch out of the water, they were fun boats to drive.

I GPS'd it today and WOT at around 5900 I got 36 on the GPS. I'm a newb to outboards; but this boat should go faster IMO. Where do I start for a prop? Pitch? Blades?
