Did you order by the casting number? Are they the same width at top and bottom? Your new one looks kinda like a 141 top guided.

Numbers on the old rod are, 636-8118, Y. 26, new rod is 38, 636-8118, 38, E. That is all the letters and numbers on them. They are both the same width at the top and bottom.

Well it sounds like that is the "updated version" of the rod you have,If you could shave some weight off and get them closer to the others it would help.If you could get them within 10/15 grams for a non hippo motor that would be fine, and I'm sure there are hippos out there running fine that are farther off than that.

Thanks outasite. I dont have any way to shave them other than taking a grinder to them.Might could find a machine shop around here to do it. Problem is, all of the machine shops here are automotive based. Dont know if they would even touch them.

if you got a good price on the 2 rods. i would see if the seller has another 4 of the same. that would be my choice. they look more durable.

While waiting for the 2 replacement rods to arrive, I was cleaning, checking, and installing pistons on my other ones and found what might be yet another problem, with another rod. When I put the rod cap on, it locks into position where it was split in half, but my fingernail catches on the split. My nail also catches on the inside where the bearing rides. I have tried to reposition the cap several times, but my nail continues to catch. I tried with the bolts untorqued, and with them torqued. I cleaned the mating surfaces, the threaded hole on the rod, and installed new bolts. No dice, still catches my nail. I figure it is not good, but this is my first time dealing with this type of rod design. I deal with automotive, and diesel engines. Whole different ball game. Is this going to hurt anything?

Don't run it,in a short time it will start to fret right at the parting line. Or worse!

Thanks for the replies. I am beginning to wonder if I will ever get this thing back together. It's one thing after another.
