    Post Jackpate setback advice

I'm running a 200 merc 2.4 litre 28P chopper on a 19'4" panther (Checkmate hull). I would like to get some more bow lift at WOT.
I think i need a 6" to 8" set back. Does anyone have any experience with this type of set up? Comments or advice muchly appreciated.

the boat is never going to be a rocket .... you need some set back to get the boat to air out with less trim . Problem is the boat was never over built and to add lots of set back you will have transom problems . so you need to move weight back to help lift the nose . A prop with more rake and or cup in the tips of the blade will help also .

Thanks Frank, didn't realize the transom needed to be over built. It's in excellent original condition, no cracks and don't want to damage it.

in the days this boat was built 4-6 jack plates where around . Some put them on , the 19 was a big hull , the transom was built to support the motor on little little to no set back . Thro 20-25 years of age at it and set back and you will see the result . Sorry , move some weight get out all the crap a boat gets over time , you know all that stuff under the seat etc. Most of the newer boats are built different with more knees and bracing and you can add more set back and heavier motors ......

If the transom is original id say leave it alone unless you want to do the transom down the road. Had a panther vmate 2 17 footer with a 3L johnny on it and the original transom was pouched after 2 full seasons, with no jackplate. Theres a lot of leverage on the transom when the motor is all the way up on the jackplate at full lift
