Bestest Dog Ever !
My dog constantly amazes me with his intelligence and comprehension . He is a 12 year old Minature Pincher & Pitbull mix . Cool as all get out . He weighs about 30 pounds , looks like a small muscular Doberman . He has seizures in tune with the lunar cycle , don't know how they fit together . My sister had epilepsy so my heart went out to him . He was the last of the litter , nobody wanted him because of his condition . I said I would love to have him , I understand the care he will need .
He has tricked me a couple of times at a cost of my sandwhich . I'm at the kitchen table about to have lunch . He begs , I say no , he leaves the room because he understands . A little time later he's in the front room barking continuously . What in the world is he barking at ? So he's at the window , I look out the window don't see anything ... Where did the dog go ? Oh hell , me sandwhich ! I hussel back to kitchen to no aviel , the sandwhich was gone . Now he would have gotten his arse beaten for that one , but as he was no where in sight it gave me a minute to think about it . I came to the conclusion of : If he was smart enough to lure me away so that he could get the sandwhich , let him have it .
Another time I tore 1/3 of the sandwhich off , kneeled down to give it to him . 2/3 in one hand , 1/3 in the other . I held the smaller piece out toward him . He looked at it , grabbed the bigger piece and took off . Cleaver little bastard ...
So back to the seizures . When my sister would have one she said that she can still see and hear , just can't control body movement . All I could do was to try to protect her head (hardwood floors , don't laugh , not funny) and make sure she could breathe , look in her eyes and talk to her as calm as I could manage . I do the same with him . My sister died at the age of 40 . Karen is greatly missed . A week ago the dog had a bad go around for two days . I burned two vacation days because I wasn't going to leave him home alone ...
So the other day I come home from work sick with a virus . Ya the whole both ends , fever , just let me die feeling ... one . I put a pair of sweats on and climb under a thick quilt . My dog knows I'm ill and lays beside me against my leg . I get a case of the shutters from the fever . My dog gets up , comes to my face , flops down looking at me . He then pushed his paw under my cheek and I relized what he was doing . He thought that I was having a seizure . He is my best friend , his name is Dobby . Thought the story was worth sharing . Go ahead and be jealous because I have the bestest dog ever !

My golden has seizures. They are pretty well controlled by pheno. I find when he has a break thru seizure that I press in on his eyes and this is said to relieve pressure on the brain and shorten the seizure. It really has worked the times I have had to do it. Give it a try, nothing to loose and yes.........dogs rule.
Just a note, my wife is hypoglycemic and also has seizures, pressing on her eyes did not help, maybe I will try a pillow next time
JUST KIDDING

Steve-S, Great stuff, dogs do rule!!!.......

My Coon Hound had seizures for years even with pheno from time to time until we switched the food 18months ago and never had another one!
The vet suggested to keep him on a lowest dose of the pheno just for maintenance.
The food we now use is "Natural Balance" venison and sweet potato. I would have never believed it if not personally witness it.
Food change came about when we thought the food was giving him ear infections so we had him tested and decided to make the change. After the change the infections also stopped.

Ha on food! I bought a "spinner" (Rotisserie Chicken) and was on the front porch De-boning it to make something else with the chicken. My Golden was sitting there drooling but said "NO TOUCH". So end up plate bones, and plate meat. Made the mistake on taking the bones in to the garbage first so she wouldn't get into it. Well, a chicken on a low table and a dogs nose? Came out a few seconds later to a clean plate! Ya can't blame the dog!

Picked up a bag of that yesterday . I was suprised that it cost double what the Iams did . No problem , anything for my little buddy .
I had also gotten a tube of the soft meal form . I came home from work to find my son cooking at the stove . "Whatcha making boy ?"
"Sausage Pattys " he says . I said " You really need to read the packaging instead of just grabbing stuff out of the fridge."
It did smell good though ...
I'll post periotically , hopefully it will make a difference .
We never had a MRI done so we don't if it's a brain tumor or hyper sensativity from diet .

You need to feed you dog way less of the expensive food to keep them healthy. The cost works out in the end. My rotteie was eating 5 cups of the so called good food, did some research and switched now he is good with 3. He weighs 110lbs.

I got now soon 12 year Golden fat ass, and she still don't know shes like 4 feet long. Butt end getting lame (used up). "Move yer ass so I can open the door"! She's 110 pounds, and only morning "cookies", cup dry food, and at night? "Fest time"! She gets 1/2 cup food, soak with my last beer "basting", and mixed in 1/2 can Alpo. Then that gone fast, and now.."my food". So I whip something up, ready, and hit the couch with racing on. Dog lays down under me..waiting snack! So I can't finish all (or wont as shes one heck "plate clearer". Then next? Gotta have ice cream me, and at one time gave her a couple "Alpo Snaps" cookies. One day teasing dropped one in my ice cream so did a dig IC and gave it to her? WOOF!
NOW? Turns her nose away if NO ICE CREAM now!
But if I say her.."like chickens, or brown and serve sausage, or BACON? The drooling starts! Kinda cracks me up dog food now and old "don't feed table scarps? Whats the new stuff? SAME DAMN THING! And afterwe "chow down , fat and happy, let her out to pee and say.."hurry up as Peanut butter next" She has natural cow femur bones 12 inch, now chewed up to 4 inch. So after a brush teeth me, call her in and she gets in the old bone knife filled PB it. Always do a couple loaded knife me too!
But when cooking BACON? Dog goes NUTS smell (maple, thick sliced) it! But watch the fingers! Drop it and caught FAST or yer fingers going in too! "Dog like a alligator"! Wish the (still and always will be) puppy the best, as the "caretaker" Damn doggys...with out women and dogs? Life not worthy of living.............

That reminds me of the treats problem . I used to give the dog "Beggin Strips" fake bacon but noticed that he was having seizures more often . I switched over to "animal crakers" and that lessened the amount of episodes . We call them cookies , he loves them . But the best part of them is : One for bubby , one for daddy , one for bubby , one for daddy .
Don't you love coming home from work , open the door and being greeted by someone happy to see you .

Steve,
Very glad to hear that! So where we on price but I can tell it worked miracles on our guy! Dog foods and treats are NOT all the same as some may say!
I found out some have lots of bad stuff in them especially the lower priced brands with no quality control.
When our vet recommended it I told my wife how can food make a change, she said we need to try it, extremely glad we did.....
Good Luck, will be following and looking for your updates.
