    260 big bearing?? what year did they start production

    does anyone know what year merc changed from small bearing crank to big in the 260????

    No 95 or 96. Pretty sure 96 was first big bearing. My old 94 was small bearing motor

    I agree, 1995 first big bearing, I bought one new, I have 2 '93 blocks and there small. Check your serial #'s, OG367000 and up are big bearing.

    It was Aug. of 95 that they were started (I waited for 2 of them) and my brother bought a 3rd. All of ours were tagged as 96'.

    I thought they added the extra bolts earlier than the big bearing crank, like in 94? I've always thought the big bearing came for model year 96

    Mercury has done things and changes so hard to put an exact finger on things, check your serial # or better yet what you actually have.... Heck they used some parts laying around for updating as needed...... Late 95-96 is what I remember.
