Mercruiser not being supplied by gm for engines anymore? ?
Just read an article in power and motoryacht, they claim that mercruiser has severed ties with gm? I went on the mercruiser website, and mercruiser is selling 8.2, 6.2, and 377 ci power packages, all the same displacements as there previous gm engines. Is it possible that mercury is actually making the engines themselves? Here is a picture from the page in power and motoryacht.

they make a 4.5ltr v6 themselves of new design but still pushrod not to mention the QC4V
base engines needs to be very cheap for base packages
HP stuff is hand built so any parts can be used.
Did you know they have built a 4valve head for LS3 GM??Last edited by powerabout; 04-21-2016 at 09:00 AM.

They have launched a V8 as well. Brunswick's investor presentation briefly mentions that they are moving to in-house engines.
Manufactured at Fond du Lac, according to the press release.
GM engines got too sophisticated and expensive for Mercruiser when GM technology finally left the fifties...Markus' Performance Boating Links:

What about the Volvo Penta v8? They used to build on the same platform as Mercruiser..? Now they are 80hp stronger and 220lbs lighter with modern heads and valve configuration. http://www.volvopenta.com/volvopenta...es/V8-430.aspxRIB Unlimited 600/Merc 150 ProMax ss

the complexity has gotten a little ridiculous though for a marine application, most of the saltwater sterndrives i see don't lead a very good life, with corrosion/rust appearing in the first couple of years, but i do agree it is probably a monetary issue with mercruiser. crusader has been using ls based engines for a few years now. it surprises me that it is cheaper for merc to cast/make all the components instead of buying complete engines
