These two pictures represent my small contribution to Mercury's racing history. The first is from 1970 of the boat that won the last SE National Championship with a 44ci 50 Merc. My self and Johnny Reed were first and second. The second picture is from the 1973 Nationals. This was Mercury's last hurrah in SE. Bobby Drury won (that's his wake) and I came second. Both of us were also Merc 650 powered. After this OMC pretty much took over SE class

Jeff didn't run SE until after he was hurt in his Mod U in 1975. He did run my EP for a couple years after I went to college in 1985. When Danny Critchfield was killed he stopped all together.

I tried that v-bottom McCall in SE once in 1974. It was real fast but I could not get it to turn even on a wide open course like Eufala. I think I was lucky that the motor lost the alternator cause if I had actually raced it like that I probably would have gone on my head one more time.
