IMO, it's a simple matter of balance which means weight placement when laying the boat out.
I've not raced one but see no reason why Nick shouldn't be able to make this work.

    3.0 Mercs are 460ish each? Times 3 = 1380 lbs.
Most 30' Velocity's were powered by twin big block Bravo I/O's which are 1100 lbs each and run 80's??
So according to my math the triple Merc O/B's are 800+ lbs lighter. I like that math.

Of course they're hanging on stick 2' behind the boat but it'd probably take a 5' stick to make them equal two I/O's.

What I mean to say is, Nick it will never work and you should save your time and money

Gary, we think alike. The I/O's weigh more than the tripple outboards and with the drives being so close to the transom (unless you run standoff boxes) you can't get the same leverage or clean water flow that the outboards can get on a bracket! With the way Nick has configured this boat with the fuel tank and battery placement along with the fact that the cockpit is easily 3' further forward due to this boat being built as a staggered I/O race boat, the CG should work out well. Not to mention, the outboards will mounted be on a floatation setback bracket that will also add some lift and planing surface at the stern..

Beautiful 30. Been a long time since I've seen one of these.

I had Stainless Marine do a custom bracket for me. One of the thins I wanted was to have it as short as possible and still be able to do a full tilt on a 300X. I believe it was 28" but I can double check.

They built one with 700 and NXT drive and I believe it ran right at 90. I'd think 1200 would be well north of 100. The 30 Activator is a bad ass ride but the Velocity is a much bigger boat.

Stopped by the shop to check on Nick's Velocity project. Boat is painted and now in the rigging phase. Awesome project!

I heard he had a bad ass trailer built for this thing and it was delivered today. For those that are unaware, Nick has extensive experience in all of these categories: Racing, rigging, building, designing (was personally involved in building and designing stuff with Steve at Velocity as well), running very fast pleasure boats for extended periods, and AC/DC music. He will be fine and this thing will run as good as possible. I do agree with Brad that going up against 2nd Amendment in that class is a tall order.

Nick, and Velocity gang, that boat as mentioned above has lines that any man has to love, I mean, Damn, like a Checkmate 28 OB its just timeless. Why does it happen that Killer molds for killer boats have to be sold for some stupid amount vs what their really worth? How many Rich boat builders are really out there, besides Earl, he knows how to sell em thats for sure. Wouldnt a Velocity 30 with some updates to interior and Twin 400 Verados sell today? If someone put some thought into a deck that would keep everyone happy it would sell
