Dale, I was hoping that you would chime in. I surely do not know everything about HP cats (or nearly as much as you)! But I do know that the math does not work. The article Jason Johnson wrote now is stating that it did 125+ MPH @ 7075 RPM. That is less than 4% slip @ 7075 RPM, 3% @ 7000RPM. Stated 400R rpm is 7000. Very nice boat, but really! All us small cat owners have an eye on Mother Mercury's new baby. I wish people could be accurate with their findings.

Don't mean to detract away from these pertinent questions of how a small prop when spun at 7K RPMs results in incredible, unbelievable speeds! Carry on

according to the report, the engine spun 7075 with 34" pitch and 3.9% slip

    The numbers DO add up

RPM - Will a 400R spin to 7075? Show me a cat or any boat that will achieve 3.9% slip! That is my point. Try it yourself and you will see! Nasty got the best of 8% with the same props. Even at 7075 RPM, and 8% slip equals 120 MPH. JMO

    Hi,

Do we in fact know if the prop 34 inch pitch prop? As we all know no prop is accurate in pitch. It could well be 33,5 inch pitch in real world.

I've said my piece, and I'm not going to continue on about this Speedster. It's a beautiful boat, and they're obviously getting good speeds out of it. No matter what # they show in a pic on the internet, I know they'd never stay with me in my 28/XSs in the conditions I run in (straights, turns, wakes, rough, smooth, etc.). That boat is a smooth water, straight line, lake boat only with the 1,400 #s of motors hanging off the back. And for the type of guy that bought it, it is probably perfect for him. He can impress everybody on the beach in the Havasu channel with his 128 recall (or whatever it is), while I'm out impressing the passengers in my 28/XSs with how incredibly well it does EVERYTHING. I've had a full season of first-hand comparison of Eliminator vs Skater. My buddy owned the 27 Daytona in the pic with my 28 - he sold it after one season because it didn't turn well and wouldn't get over the wakes/rough water without slowing way down - and still beating he and his wife to death. There was no comparison between the two boats, and I guarantee this Speedster is no different.........

I destroyed a 32 eliminator w a Euro w. 300xs across lake chop. Not rough by any means but it was like a go kart destroying a sports car at raystown lake

Thanks guys! I love my Skater. The only reason I have been vocal on the new 28 Speedster is that the spotlight on the Merc 400R. Dale, your photo of the difference in hull profile says all I need to know. Once again, I am not a hater for any boat. The 28 Speedster is stunning. I just bugs me that people for mostly monetary reasons will not tell the truth! I am done with this thread. David....

The lowest slip # I've ever seen out of my 28 (which is 400 #s lighter) is 4-5%. There's no way they'd be lower than that (in fact, I'd bet anything they're higher because they're pushing more weight), which puts them just above the 120 mark. They're pulling the same trick that a guy I know pulled a few years back with his 28 Skater w/ twin 300XSs - he posted pictures all over the internet of 115mph in his GPS at 6,350rpm - which he recorded running with a 6-8mph current on the Colorado River up at Bullhead City. The boat would never even break 110mph in still water, but he claimed that 115 as the boat's top speed. There's no doubt they've got that rig running very well, just don't be fooled by the smoke and mirrors job they're pulling........
Amen brother! I agree. Best I have seen with my boat is 4-5%. And the higher I raise the motors it goes up as well. They are calling us Skater guys on OSO haters.
We will be running a 30' Skater down here in the coming weeks with 400r's that I am involved with. I will find out the real deal soon with these motors versus my 300x's .
    Can't wait.

Ron, I am confident that you will post honest results that we can accurately access what the 400's will and wont do! Thank you in advance. David.....

So to compare the engines - what do you think the 28 Speedster would run with 300 xs" ?

might have facts there 6 to 8 mph current would be like losing weight and adding pitch ?
