There's no reason they couldn't be lighter if they wanted them to be. The newer XR2001's are substantially lighter than the older models

I think Todd Bucknell's XR2002 is 490lbs. The weights are all up for debate if they aren't weighed on the same scale with exactly the same equipment. I do know this, a 675 lb XB 2002 is not nearly as easy to go fast in as a 780 lb one. I have heard Darris talk and laugh many times about the red XB2002 that was the Jaco boat on the Merc calendar back in the day. They wanted it built super light for a top end record run. He told "them", Glenn Reynold's and Jerry Jaco, that wasn't what was needed. They insisted so he built it. I think that boat was in the 615-620lb range. The boat handled like crap. The bottom was flexing in the pad area. Darris went back in and added some reinforcement and the boat sat on a rail. Weight doesn't hurt top end nearly as much as e.t. just because of the pucker string that is attached from your bung hole to your right foot. Boat weight tends to relax it.

Dave, Darris told me the same story and when he redesigned the stringers for the new XR's, he incorporated rigidity throughout the hull and transom. He believes this hull is at least twice as rigid and the 18+ years of advanced methods and means paid off in the weight department as well. He'll announce the weights shortly as two boats are built and weighed.

What does bare consist of in your opinion?

I'm trying to figure this out for an apples to apples comparison.

Bare to me would mean hull and top.......no rigging, tank, rub rail, steering, interior, gauges or controls.....

Tell Darris to throw the two mechanical scales, one at the stern and one at the bow, out and get a good set of digital scales to weigh them with. Scale technology has advanced as much or more than boat building tech in 30 years!!!

They still had the rub rail. Nothing else in the boat so our idea of bare is about the same. My 2005 XR2001 was about 475 bare, Allison had it listed at 510 which probably included the seat, steering, and fairing. When I bought my 1/4 Master I wanted to know bare weight because there are variables in rigging types, steering, batteries, etc..

What's everyone's thoughts between racing an XR-2001 vs. an XR-2002 if the weights were equal?
Which is the better driving boat?

I wanted an xr2002 originally, because its a better lake boat, that can be very competitive as well.

Also I have heard that they are easier to string out on top end, but I have no factual info, just what I found talking to people when looking.

a week after I found my 2001 I found a 2002 I would have loved to have had DOH!

Oh well, in sure i'll love my 01, just gonna be a little more cramped on river rides
