1990 evinrude 140 cutting out!! help!!!!!

hello, and here we go,. i will start by telling what i have already done to this motor, i purchased it and was not running, found to have a bad fuel pump,. i drained all the fuel from the tank, rebuilt the carbs, replaced all the fuel lines, installed a new water separator/ filter, installed a new fuel pump, new plugs,, motor has been running awesome for about 4 months, now i have a cut out situation, it is inconsistent, sometimes it runs fine and at other times when you try to start, it is very hard starting, and when you try to throttle up and get on plane it will cut in and out . it is not surging, so i am assuming with a whole new fuel system that its not a fuel issue.i have an extra cdi box and swapped it with no change. also disconnected the white wire to ground with no change,. i took it out a few weeks ago and it ran fine on the way out, then all the sudden on the way back in it started hard and the cut in and out . couldnt get above about 2000 rpm without it cutting out. any help is greatly appreciated. wondering if i should just buy a whole new ignition system for it or if possibly a fuel pump (even tho its new), might be bad/ i.e. stator, rectifier, cdi box, coils, trigger?

    i am very frustrated .

Make sure temperature sending units are not bad. That will put it in s.l.o.w. mode. It is an easy check they are in the back of each head, just unplug them.

Might could be a pinhole leak in one'a yer water hoses. Peeing right onto something important. Like yer ignition. If'n ya don't remove the cowl immediately after an episode. The water drains or evaporates & you might not notice evidence of a leak. But it happens.

Might want to check the pins on the electrical hook up from power head that goes to trim and ignition switch. Mine had pin that wasn't matching up perfectly and taping up the connection to insure it didn't slip apart fixed mine. The clip that holds it all together wasn't holding it perfectly stable.

no horn, tried fuel, it runs fine and then all the sudden cuts in and out. sometimes it runs fine for the whole day with no issues, other times, it very hard to start and then when you try to throttle up over about 2500 it just cuts in and out. NOT SURGING, actually seems like the ignition is being turned on and of . I just want to buy a complete ignition system for this thing and figure it out later. This really sucks cause i cant take it out far , because it may run fine and it may not. it starts fine some days and others is very hard to start. ect. checked connections. water leaking, ect. all the above, I'm thinking maybe the trigger or possibly the flywheel magnets are coming loose. had a mercury do that to me. anybody got parts call me please 804-895-4655

Yes, it was the vro pump. I disconnected the warning system and used the vro just as a fuel pump. Disconnect the oil part and mix your fuel. Or buy a new pump.

It was the electrical side of the pump that was causing my issue, the warning system that is built into it. Disconnected the electrical connectors and it's perfect now. What it does is it thinks it is overheating and shuts the power packs down do you won't burn up the motor, but mine was a faulty electrical circuit in the pump warning system
