[Scream And Fly]

Back in the late 1990s, this is where it began for many of us. I know a lot of you here remember the Hydrostream message board. This was the beginning - there was no registration, and every time you posted, you simply typed in your name or handle. And so, I'm sure I don't have to describe the antics that went on with people posting under the names of others, etc. It was the very beginning of the 'wild west' of the internet.

This was the message board that inspired Scream And Fly. I still have the original archives of Scream And Fly's very first message board, which was similar to the Hydrostream message board. In 2001 we went to VBulletin, which was brand new beta software back then. I still remember using that old 56K telephone modem to dial into the internet to access the Hydrostream message board. Good times.

Thats pretty cool Greg. I think I first read about Scream and Fly was in Hot Boat in around 2001. Living in the sticks in B.C. did not have internet till Dec 2009. Got on to S&F in Jan and been here since.
Thanks for this site, think if it ever went away would need serious mental help.

I found this place after visiting Scary Fast, there was a link from a post to this place and I was hooked ever since. I know that in the past some folks complained, called it Scream and Cry, for me it's always comedown to where can you go ( 1 Place) to get this much information or find this many boats for sale. Thinking Greg has done a wonderful job keeping it all going, and trying to keep peace however he can. Probably the first site I visit each day, thanks for having me, it has been a pleasure.

For me boat racing started in 1977 but was not introduced to the internet till 2002 by Lake Trash. I knew nothing about it but bought a Dell and jumped in anyway. S&F was the first for me then the By-U-Boyz site. Both are still at the top of my list. Man if we had this internet thing way back when i might not have blown up so many engines. Then again, I prolly would have.

I remember the hydrostream board and ScaryFast. It's how I found S&F. Been a few years ago now and it has become one of my daily stops. Really appreciate Greg's, and many others', efforts to keep this place alive. Never dreamed any site could be as informative and quite often just really "entertaining". I have bought and sold boats and motors across the planet, driven to events across the country, and even had an annual event of my own for a while. So many people I would have never had the opportunity to meet. I could easily call S&F life changing. You should be very proud Greg. Thanks

I remember posting on www.speedvision.com in the boating section, asking if anyone had a Allison Grandsport near Chicago. I've told this story before, but the infamous Scott Gilmore replied and invited me to Michigan for a test ride. I spent the weekend at Wamplers Lake and drank beer with the best of them. Oh, and I learned how to drive a Grandsport too. That was maybe 1998? Anyway, the rest is history ....

Yes, it was an angelfire board before it made the jump to vbulletin in April 2001. I think I found it sometime in 2000

That is 100% correct! We began in 1998 as a free Angelfire site. I didn't know a thing about programming HTML and back then there were no such thing as website templates. So, with the free Angelfire account came 5 megabytes of storage (!) and a blank page. Below is the oldest screenshot of S&F from that time. Many of the images are not present in that archive image, however many of you will recognize Mike Balz's HST.
