anyone recognize these merc megaphones
I got these 3 megaphones at a swap meet had old tag on them said Mercury BP. They are stainless under the paint. One of them was repaired at one time. From other Pictures of complete BP engines I seen they don't look to be factory pipes, no springs, elbows different? They do look to have correct mounting flange to mount up to mercury plates?
I Don't know anything about them, just wondering if anyone may recognize them or who built them?

I will remove the paint on one of the good ones and take a few better pictures of it. The cones look to be spot welded into elbows and fill welded or brazed around the outside of the cone and elbow joint?
I think they where last on a motor stand racer of some type. The cheap paint would of burned off the pipes if they got ran at all.

Did you happen to buy those at Tomahawk? I saw a set just like that there I think last year. One was broke and welded. Same color of paint as those.

To me they looked just like the BP stacks, with obvious differences. Looked like they would mount right up to a 1250 stacker filler block/exhaust cover. But never measured them. The two that were not broke looked like they were done by someone who knew what they were doing. The "fixed one" was a bit chunky on the welding.
Im guessing they were the predecessor to the 1250 BP two piece stacks.
I thought about buying them, but did not know how to fix that weld, nor do I have a filler block.
Im glad someone got them .L6fan57-88

The 2 do look like very good craftsmanship. The broken one does look like a fire wrench free for all repair! With all the oil contamination probably was a hard repair if done on the road at a race?
Probably never will know what happened or who?
Does any one have any pictures of any of the early Mercury factory one piece pipes before the two piece ones. If these would be factory Merc pipes they would be made in between the 1100ss and 1250bp two piece pipes.

I think Dave is right----'prorto types'---Parker was March, 1968 and Mercury was well represented---but in this picture of the Mercury pits---No Stackers (1250's). I don't think the two piece pipe was ready for a nine hour race. Kenny tested some 'welded' pipes on his 1250's and I think they broke at the weld---

Factory one piece pipes. On a Merc 800. Very rare, but I have seen at least 5 sets, at the Lake and in Miami. When I worked for Dave Craig, Mr.K's favorite, he tried to get two sets and couldn't. They didn't have any. We had to get them from Quincy. Dave's 4 point cat has the Quincys, but they are hard to see. Chuck's cat was sitting on the dock area at Lake X, right where I saw it. Booger Reds Cat had one piece, and they may be the same ones on Chucks Cat at the Lake. The Raveau has Quincys. It's easy to tell them apart. The Merc stacks have additional bracing tying the stacks together. The Quincys had nothing. I never broke either.

Exhaust collector design shape, looks to be taken from air-cooled two stroke designs, such as the Righter-Kiekhaefer, McCulloch, Disston, Menasco, etc., engines.
