As a start, I've never owned a 380 but ive watched and been a fan of them for 30 yrs. since I was in elementary school.. I remember in the 1980's how racers spoke of the boat hitting a wall right before 100 mph.. Now I'm sure today's power can leverage through that wall but from 0-mid 90's that hull is a gem with no dark corners or evil tendencies that I've heard of.. Just a very soundly designed hull that may be one of the best all around laker boats and v-hull circle racers there ever was..

I would go with a 280 before a 300XS. Especially if there is boat traffic to deal with. My son has a 380 Ray with a 225 3litre Merc. The surprise larger boat wakes send you up pretty quick with the added weight. He has seen 86 GPS on our lake. I had one in 1984 with a 2.6 Evinrude Xp. It still would fly on the wakes but it was easier to handle. Maybe I am just getting older. No GPS back then so who knows the real speed I got.

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys, I figured the 3 liter would be too heavy, it would be perfect on the 21 though, I think my dad may put a 250xs on his. Hopefully my 280 build will be starting sometime mid winter I keep everyone posted, I'll need a few parts when the time comes.
lets see some more laser pics!

I had the 1987 420 Laser, I was in the laser catalog with that one. I had a warmed over 200 XP Evinrude on it. Traded that one back to Kydds Marine for a kevlar center steering . 380, put the XP on that one. The boat was light and liked everything mounted in the back. I ran Hoser's 21 Super Boat when he had the 300 XP V8 on it and beat it. It ran in the 90's. That boat is up for sale from the guy I sold it to with a Merc on it.

Thanks!
I had a Bridgeport on the predictor, then the 225x and now its just got a 2.4 200hp on it. Does low 80's with the 200 but would just crack 90 with either of the other motors.79 Checkmate Predictor 2.4 200, 00 Bullet 20XDC 2.5 280

Just checking in to see if anyone else's projects came together over the winter? I ended up picking up a 280 and should finish rigging in the next week or so.
