Actually hull and weight can make a difference as to what is too high on porting. I never modified an engine without knowing what it was going to be used on.

08-11-2015, 10:53 PM #10There is a ''sleeve company '' in the USA that gives all the measurements on all the mercs sleeves, port height, size and width.....i can,t remember the name ( old age I guess ).

This way you'd be able to find out from let's say 175hp to 250hp, what they've done to the port and this way find out how much is too much......that was my 2 centsGlastron GT 150 W OMC 140

These motors have been mucked around with by many, there is plenty of previous posts about them. Someone surely knows the best port map for these motors

Not to sound like a smart @$$ butt that's kind of like asking what's the best cam to put in a 350 chevy and not knowing what it's for. They've been around a long time, there's a lot of different cams but what works best for a pulling truck probably won't be the best for a road race car. Same thing with the boats a heavy setup boat is going to need a different prop then a light setup boat so that means the heavy boat might need more torque at X rpm so the port map that worked on the light setup might not make enough torque to plane the quickly or at all or vise versa a port map for a heavy boat might make a light boat launch out of the hole but fall flat on it's face at higher rpms. That's not even getting in to difference in the drag and area of a different hulls or gear ratio's in different lower units.

	08-12-2015, 04:55 PM #15Wowww, for a shear, it,s a major one.

let me picture a few things of my own. I've posted pictures that must have been ''silly', to some but very straight to the point for ME and may be for others. This being said. there is NO silly questions whatsoever.

Knowledge is something that, unfortunately, will fade away in your brain once you stop breathing. You will take it away with you in the grave. It's perfectly honest to share it and it,s also perfectly good if you don't want to share it with the ones in need. This globe of ours is populated with @$$ Holes from every country, every nations and mostly every size, length and all those combinations as above stated. I've met my fair share of that type of so called human beings as an TV Broadcast electronic engineer and thank God I did not loose faith in the better. I had so much fun teaching things I've learned the hard way and, after a few years, seeing this '' KID'' doing things in the best way that I would have done and sometimes better than me, That brought confidence in the new generations to my soul.

It would be so much fun If we,d decide to set aside those frustrations of the day ( there was a few for me in the past weeks ), enjoy this sport/hobby of BOATING together and help each other to a better cruise on those rivers all across the world.

May be i am day dreaming, but you should hear what my brain was telling me to write about the last few posts that I did not typed, I could have been banned from this site for a loooong time. thank God.
