if guns are illegal, that means only the criminals will have them here.( no thanks) and milling an 80% AR-15 lower reciever is only a 1.5 " deep cut. the size of the tooling to mill a depth of 7-8" is wayyyyy outta my price range.however i like the chromoly trussed tube one.. now that i can do- and will, then ill post the pics.

get caught with a gun you will most likely get the death penalty, that tends to thin out the criminals

all but the ones with nothing to lose.. ( the ones u wanna watch out for ) Gun crimes account for less than 1% of the crimes in the U.S. you gotta actually do something that hurts someone here to get put on death row

About the Tubed mid. Its OK to tac it with a MIG but all final welding should be TIG IMO.

Personally in 44 years of working with thin wall tube I have never and will never use a Mig welder.

ya, thinking about it maybe i'd be inclined to do it out of like .065 DOM rather than chromoly. I Dont wanna worry about cracks at the welds because i diddnt anneal or cool it down right or whatever..

I know we are here for the development of strong light Mids but one major comment on the wrong opinion about free ownership of guns.
Bad upbringing of our youth leads to killing people, not the fact that guns are in the public. I know a few people with large collections of guns. I prefer to hang around them and their kids, they are safe.
Where there is widespread gun ownership crimes are low, very low.

    Welders
Decades past to combo welders were not good working machines. Not having looked at the new to market versions it may be they will weld well and be reliable.
The internal difference between a Mig and Tig is how the power level is controlled, Tig is constant voltage and the amps are varied.
Mig varies the voltage. There could well be improvements today that allow a maching to do both and weld well but in hard wound machines this was a complication.
For steel my favorite welding machine is a Thermodynamics inverted Tig, an older GTS190. Tiny unit but smooth and quiet.
My most used machine is an old Syncrowave 250 that I bought new in the 80s.
The machine that sits collecting dust is a Lincoln 180 tig. It is a frustrating entry level toy. Can not even set post flow time. I bought this when a lightning hit took out the circuit board on the syncrowave. Once I sucked in my gut and spent the $1100 for a circuit board the Lincoln has been pushed aside collecting dust.

I have two Mig machines, a big and a little Blue machine. The 250 out welds the 130 any day as far as control and smoothness of operation. By this I mean even on thin steetmetal.

Maybe because I have been welding a long time I have not found any need for the fancy electronic controls that one pays for. These are quite useful in automated welding but we run these machines manually, hands on. Only fancy electronic thing I see value in is a pulser. One good use for this is welding anodized aluminum.

My opinion and we all know about other peoples opinions, if you have a Mig machine you like, buy a Tig only unit. Tig welders are great stick machines as well.
If you think you may only be doing steel get a simple inverter rig, but then you are restricted where a Tig is so versatile. There are some AC/DC inverters that are good machines as well.

    Charlie North
