Scream & Fly sellers etiquette
I have been cleaning out the garage and have been running into a problem.
I list items and I can get multiple replays said "I want it" ... I get freight quotes, box the items and never get a reply back.
how long do you hold a item? Than this rolls into the 2nd question.. I get multiple replys saying "I want it" and reply to each person and
the first person to send payment I send it out.. than the other people complain saying " I told you I wanted it"... is it first payment wins?
I hate being a Dick, but I hate holding items for a week and never getting a reply.
Whats the norm?

In my opinion, going with the first person who gets the funds to you is the one who gets it, telling other people who say they want it that there is a deal pending isnt rude, WAY TO MANY tire kickers out there these days, just saying "i want it" in my opinion doesnt hold that item, if they want it bad enough they can call and discuss payment. But thats just me.

ive got the same things going on with my boat for sale right now except no payment..............i get real tired of how flakey some people have become, "hey can i get some pictures, ya know real good ones of everything" i spend an hour sending them pictures and never hear from them again. Trying not to sound like im whining but c'mon. Most people know exactly what they are looking for, whether its parts, motors, boats, etc........ why waste my time and your own time if you know your not buying anyway

Cash talks! If dude can't pull the trigger and send cash the second guy wins! Would car dealer hold a car on the lot cuz someone is asking questions but won't put money down? No, another person makes a quick decision and buys it while the other walks around the car for hours.

hydro peep and rjdubiel have it right the first person who sends cash gets it.
I have myself have told someone I wanted what they were selling and then dinked around and lost out because I didn't jump on the sale its my fault because I dident move quick enough not the person selling it he just wants it gone not a tire kicker.

I like it when someone asks VERY specific questions about the part for sale. And that shows that they really know what they are looking for.
For instance. When a prop is for sale how many times do people post pictures of a prop from 3'-4' away? We all know what a prop looks like from 4' away. But i want to know what each blade looks like from 12" away with VERY clear pictures.
Thats how i tell serious buyers from tire kickers.

Yup, cash talks, bs walks.... if it's a big ticket item and the guy is coming for 500 miles away, then he needs to leave a non-refundable deposit of $50 to hold if there are other buyers wanting to get it before he can make it down and the $50 goes towards the purchase.....

Long read but it pissed me for a few days.
Just went through a similar process getting rid of a $6K bow rider. Dude texted at 11pm Friday night, ended up calling and speaking with him for over 1/2 an hour, said he had 'cash'. He sounded fired up-! Asked if there was wiggle room on the price and since we wanted to sell, sure... gave him my rock bottom $ and no more. He asked for a sea trial and told him to come early (be in the water before 8am) or late evening as the ramps are full of weekenders and I didn't want to deal with it. Said he would be here by 7am.... again with cash for our agreed upon price .
Hooked up in the driveway early getting it ready for his arrival, and he texts over an hour later saying our agreed up on price is too high. My simple response was ok, go find another one for cheaper. Then it goes on for a dozen more texts that he wanted to trade some junk + cash that would've came up to a grand less than my bottom $. Told him to pound sand and no way.
Then that night (Sat) he texts again wanting to come early Sunday for the test drive and had come up with the extra cash? Extra? Bro never had it to begin with it seems. My final response was that I wasn't selling the rig to him even if he came up with my original asking price and just let it go.
A few days later I get an email through CL with some ridiculous offer to which I responded no-way. (Now its email). Didn't know it was him but remembered his name. Come to find out, the email through CL had his initials so I responded back with his name and told him to get lost.
Really? Over 50 texts just to have someone flake out. Sometimes it seems like the cheaper the rig, the more tire kickers come out of the wood work.
Rant over.
*edit*
Positive note..... just last week, had prop listed on a local forum. Dude hit me up and we talked. Asked if I would ship to which I responded 'rather not' as it is a local group and prefer pickup as boxing wasnt worth the hassle to have it get damaged. Since he was 5 hours away and said he would send paypal with shipping costs and all I had to do was drop it off at UPS.
Money in a few minutes, wife dropped the prop off at UPS, they packaged it, sent him the tracking number and he responded the next day stating it arrived safe and sound.

I don't do PayPal or email transfers. I've had to many issues with compromised accounts. If funds need to move that fast a call to my account manager and a wire transfer takes care of it.
Back to the topic....if the seller wants / needs funds NOW then it's up to the buyer to get the funds there.....and both parties have to be "professional".
Look at the reputation of the person your dealing with and take the time to talk.

Hmmm, maybe a discussion on seller's etiquette should include suggestions that members who run multiple ads should upgrade their member status to help a little with the overhead.

When I bought my viper from BC I sent a certified Check overnight for half. I could have been robbed but all was good. I guess it is a case by case thing, but us mail gets across the country quick! So three or four days and no check???? PayPal buyer gets the go for flyby!
