115 tower of power stator problem
Hello to all I have a 1988 115 mercury with the adi ignition it runs but runs badly I can only get up to 4100 rpm but I think the tack is wrong because It should b running a lot faster at that rpm I was thinking it could b the high side of the stator so I searched online and done an ohms test on it and this is what I came up with today I did an ohms test and this was the results I had the ohms meter on 20 k and tested the blue and white wire from the stator and grounded other one and I came up with 4.62 I tested the blue wire from stator and ground and I came up with 4.72 the red wire and a ground I got .10 and the red/white wire and ground I got .14 can anyone tell me if the stator is bad from these numbers I also did a test on the trigger I did violet to brown on the trigger wires going to top switch box I had to change my meter to 2000k to get a reading on that and it said 93.2 on the trigger wires going to bottom switch box I did violet to brown and it gave me a reading of 2.2 can someone please help do u think the trigger and stator are bad

I'll have to check my book. I'll have it for you tomorrow. Hope you can wait. It's at another place.

If someone will tell me how to attach a picture, I'll send the pages from the Merc manual. I used to be able to, I thought.

Ok I finaly got a chance to test the stator today so my question is from blue to red I got 5.70 k which was in the range on blue white to red white I got 7.43 k which was higher than what it said it should be redto ground I got 150 which was in range and red white to ground I got 150 which was in range so since that one was higher than it should be does that mean I need a stator the trigger all checked out good and can anyone tell me if the red white and blue white wires are for the high side of stator or low thanks for any and all input sorry about the delay

Its been 2 years since I tested an ADI stator, so Im rusty. They give you a range for it to fall into. If your outside that range then you probably found your problem.
I think people rely on peak voltage as a better test, but ohms does work. If you have access to a peak voltage meter Id try it. Ive only used ohms, and it worked for me finding bad stators.

Today I swaped wires on switch boxes red to red/white and blue to blue white it ran awful could hear motor misfire and shake but it seemed like my problem changed from the topend to take off does that mean the switchbox is probably bad I really need help on this I'm so frustrated with this thing thanks in advance for any response

You need to run the CDI tests. I seem to remember you doing so and found the stator out of tolerance. CDI has tests for all these parts. You cannot get any better advise than what CDI has written out for you.

I think I should get me a dva meter and try rerun test seems like I get different ohms reading every time and the stator had a high ohms reading on one side

Ohms are hard to read at times thats for sure. Seems like stators can read different each time you try.
I personally don't own a DVA meter yet. But I need to. The people that use them swear by them. CDI makes an adaptor to use on a Fluke meter or equivalent.L6fan57-88
