thank you Quinten, I got some good unexpected news today, a twin disc tranny sold after months on the market. did I see it's till the 16'th? if so I pick up the check next week and can breath a little easier. as for standing up Bud, at the beginning of this conversation there was no mention of a "once in a lifetime" offer, 5 days only !!! just "would anybody be interested". I'll read back Quinton, but I belive you said the 16'th, thank you for your offer, sincerely.

as for a commitment, there was no timeframe mentioned, other than my desire to accuire one before November. then it turned into NOW for something I don't or won't need except for probably a dozen times in my life. as for their production run and cutting of cloth, it's something yet to be done, not like they already put the effort into it and are expecting to be paid for. 90 bucks to me is not that big of a deal for something I don't actually need right this week and comes with an expiration date.

Yes, the 16th. 2pm Pacific time, and I don't think that county observes daylight savings, so that's like 6 or 7pm here in Eastern time zone. Brian, the main number is the one I used. I don't know if it matters, but I tried to call them near 8am their time, figured I would catch them early. Hope you get through soon. Thanks guys.

This was/is not a bait and switch. Here is the link for the last group buy I was referring to http://www.screamandfly.com/showthre...ount-Group-Buy
Once interest was gathered, out of the 15 or so, a couple didn't like the grey color and one or two wanted a different model, I get that. So, 12 jackets were ordered, at least I hope for Nicks sake, I probably should have messaged him before I actually called lifeline. Anyway, that was one color, one model and it looks like they gave him about 5 days to allow for orders to come in.
This is the idea, I attempted to roll with again. As I stated before, I do live in reality, and history is a pretty good reference for anticipating the future. So, I figured that out of nearly 24 jackets, if I had 50% turn out, all would be good. This time, we had one color, again, but we had 2 models, why? Because when I read the last thread, some guys wanted a 170, so I thought I would take care of that up front. My point being, I did the very best I could to predict behavior, cover as many different purchase options as I could and get the best discount I could. My intention was to improve on the past group purchase. Having said all of that, I appreciate the support of those who have ordered, I appreciate the "qualified" answers on color and exchange rates, which I took into consideration. This still leaves a large margin of "quiet" from many who said they "were in". No, I did not have every detail, but I also could not go to lifeline to ask for a discount on 24 maybe's.
The truth is I hoped for 50%. I sincerely thought that was a very real number. So, my assumption at this point is that more than a few were not ready to buy when they said they were, orange is the worst color of life jacket or I failed to negotiate a large enough discount. Ultimately, it is my butt, my reputation and my word on the line. I have offered to purchase the balance of life vests from lifeline that is needed to make a minimum production run, then I will deal with it from there. Am I made of money, not at all, as a matter of fact, I will probably put them on a credit card, with the hopes I can sell them taking a loss on the shipping. You may ask why I would do this. Aside from what I have already mentioned, I don't want them to cancel the whole order and prevent those who did order from getting their jackets, I feel I have made a commitment to them as well.
Ive laid it out as honestly and real as I can. There is only one way to avoid criticism: do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing. –Aristotle

You have done your best and should be proud of it. Can't please everyone. Some people that needed a jacket will now be using one. Might have helped save someones life thru your efforts. Sucks you will be coming out of pocket for trying to help others. Hopefully, it will work out in the end......

Quinten as you offered to help mr fun if he needed it. I am offering to help you with any monetary issues that may occure from putting this deal together. One of the lessons I have learned and try to live by is "one way becomes NO way". I may be a short timer as to membership in S&F but I don't want a bad deal with Lifeline to throw a red flag with them or other companys in the future and you should NOT take the hit alone!!! Gary

Quinten... you did a good thing. I had no intention of ever buying a Lifeline but it's worth having one just on the outside chance I end up running a radar run or something and won't have to scramble around trying to borrow or buy one at the last minute.
That's one sale Lifeline would NEVER have made without your efforts to set up the deal here... there might be others. I was actually looking at a different brand that was a little cheaper; Lifeline was not my first choice at the "retail" price.
Anyway, I don't think they should be upset; you made an offer in good faith that they knew was dependent upon 12 or 20 individuals that you have no control over following through with their orders. There was no fraud or deception... Lifeline wanted to handle the ordering themselves rather than having you submit them all at once.
If Lifeline wanted a "guarantee" they could have done some of the things I mentioned in my first post on this topic... they could have sat on the orders until they had 12 or 20 or whatever.
You should be happy, you helped a brother out!(Even though I do float "belly up" when unconscious.)

and how could I be said to have made a commitment when there was no specific details, and further have my character and integrity questioned with your strong words. for the cost of a tire on my truck, and there's 10 of them, I spend as needed. Thank you Quinton for all you've done. I'm out for now

Listen guy's, I'm gonna ask for a small favor. I don't really care why you are not going to buy a life jacket. I'm gambled on 50 percent participating. I gambled wrong. I'm going to do what I need to do to make things right for me. I'm working on my Bridgeport today so I will have a need for my jacket when it gets here. If my phone is going to go off with a notification about this thread, let it be because someone has decided to purchase a jacket. I really don't mind getting good news, but I would prefer not to visit the thread over and over again today for the purpose of talking. There is no offense intended here. Many of us are hard headed enough, including myself, to debate anything to its bitter end. There is no debate strategy, guilt, shaming, challenging etc that will change someone's mind about what they are going to do. In my experience, it's to the contrary. So, with all due respect to anyone who has or who will read this thread, please add something positive if you like, I appreciate it, or let me know you're getting on board. I have an outboard to get running, so I can go boating. Thank you!
