once I get another solid number I'm going to sharpen the edges and just make sure the last couple of feet of the pad is straight. I want to see first hand the handling characteristics that change.

Everyone reports speed losses at Sacandaga of at least a couple mph because of the elevation, so you should pick up some at sea level.

This is an excellent point. While big pitch wheels are sexy and sound great in barside BS discussions ("man, I was turning a 32" at XXXX RPM, and I was smokin'!!"), if you have an engine that can turn and handle higher RPM (i.e. not rev limited, and not otherwise limited by intake, porting or exhaust restriction), a smaller pitch wheel is always better handling, easier to drive, and safer.

I'm not gonna sling dirt or call names. But how about numbers? If, for example, this 2.5EFI 260 will turn a 32" cleaver at 7500 rpm (BTW I am not in agreement about "throwing cleavers in the garbage"--it's likely the fastest and safest top end wheel he can choose for an overpowered light V-hull like the Viper). With 10% slip, he'd be in the 109+ range. But that 32" would be a hard wheel to handle, for anyone (even super star Viper pilots). The huge blades, steep pitch, equally steep blade skew all combine to create a paddle wheel effect when surfacing that makes any boat, but especially a light, flighty one, very susceptible to any inputs....wind, waves, driver input, etc.--and hard to react quickly. Now, I'm not saying twist that 260 at 9200 for miles turning a 24". But since the engine is still making healthy power at 7500+, why not turn a 28" at 8500 or so, obtaining the same or similar speed results but in a much more controllable and safer manner?

Keep the clever. Best top end prop for the viper. If you can keep a 260 at 8g on a viper and do almost 106mph. I say prop and setup are looking real good. We don't go from point A-B and see who gets there the fastest. We run 3+mile straight aways and see who can hold it the longest at the fastest speeds.

Let me ask this? I am planning on using a 1.62 gear on my moded pad Vector. My thinking is with a light boat and the higher prop shaft RPM. I can spin a small pitch prop at higher prop shaft speed. This way I will not have to spin the crap out of the eng. Also the smaller pitch prop will not push the boat around in the ass..
Seams a 28P at 7500 eng RPM would be more than enough to make ya squeal.
    Any thoughts?
