    Redo on the Action

Unfortunately, after having the Action totally completed, a few months ago I had an unfortunate motor fire in the driveway which is forced me to totally repaint the boat. While evaluating the situation I checked the transom and decided it should be replaced. Removing the splash well was the best option, so I opted for a splash well delete. This is been an ongoing process and I thought it best to post pics after progress was made.
This is the boat before the fire.

    it's obvious

Transom Replacement. 1 1/2" marine ply, 1.7 ounce mat, 1708 bi-axial, polyester resin. Chose to go polyester resin and marine ply because the boat was built with it originally. I am a carpenter, not a fiberglass guy, but I try my best.

Splashwell Delete. This was done with a combination of 1.7 ounce mat, 18 ounce mat, and 1708 bi-axial with polyester resin. Transom knees are tied into the floor, splash well, and transom.

I was trying to start the motor after a minor repair. I didn't realize that fuel line to the primer solenoid had gotten pulled off. This is the danger of running an electric fuel pump. It's pumping even when the motor isn't running. When the motor finally back sneezed from lack of fuel, I looked back to a 6 foot high flame coming off the motor and burning gas under the boat on the driveway. Very lucky I didn't lose the whole rig. Every plastic part on the motor and most of the wiring was cooked. Fortunately eBay came through and I got the motor back together rather quickly. The toasted paint job on the hull is another issue. Topside is stripped and I'm flipping it over this weekend to start stripping the bottom. Nothing to it but to do it.

The good thing is I went ahead with some things that probably needed to be done anyway. The new flake job is going to be better than ever.

I definitely have to feather the throttle coming off plane. All I've ever run is small pad V's and it's the nature of the beast with a big outboard.

For the glitter, I use Custom Shop. Your boat looks sweet!

Excuse the mess......I took 1/4 round ...butted 2 pieces together and glassed em in to make a lip to "slow" water down coming in boat....doesn't stop it when wash is strong but helps.....

    P.s. I FRIGGING LOVE FLAKE!

man that stinks! but its coming out awesome, cant wait to the finished product. the metal flake combo you have is very similar to a few we built back in the day, those boats were probably the prettiest to ever come out of action marine.

I'm going for as period correct as I can. Don't know when you worked at Action, but here's one Barney Sr. built for me in 1983-84(?) for $3650.
