Setting OutBoard Height
Hello....Im about to mount my merc 200 on my Glastron. I need to know where to set it, heightwise. The motor is NOT mounted directly to the transom. Its mounted to a bracket that has an 18 inch set back. Ive heard a bunch of different answers and all I'm looking for is an accurate answer lol. Again, the engine is set back 18" from the transom and it DOES NOT have a low water pickup. It's a 200 on a 17ft boat so, a standard setting would be enough....not looking to get every last fraction of a mph. What is a good, standard way of setting this motor up??? THANKS in advance.

Stock is shaft - transom = bracket over transom
20"-17"=3" over or closest hole normally down.
common practice is anti vent plate or cavatation plate even or just above keel.
Setback is common to raise the engine 1" for 12" setback so 18" would be 1.5" in addition to the shaft trNsom measurements.
X or propshaft to pad or keel is to set the propshaft 4" for 140hp or less and 3" for 150 + below pad. tis a lwp set up.
The ideal is a/v or cav plate just ridding or barely out while running. Without lwp. Max speed without lwp is high as possible without water pressure loss.

Anti Cav plate just at or around keel is great if you are running a cabin cruiser or jonboat. For a 17 foot Galstron, unless you want the feeling of dragging a sandbag behind you, you will want to keep the prop centerline 3-4 inches MAX below the keel. That will put the cav plate way up there and your water pressure will be more than fine especially with 18 inches of setback. I'm guessing you could go higher.
18 inches back on a 17 foot boat with no LWP?

Man im just gonna be straight up .18" on a 17' boat is too much.leverage .youd be lots better off with a cheap 6" plate.especially if your not gonna raise high with lwp n shoot for high rpm.the lift of a 18" plate is gonna drive n chimewalk terrible and just sitting and especially coming off plane is gonna swamp out.get a 6" n set cav plate bout 1/2 above pad and you wont lose water pressure while trimmed.Lee

with 18' of set back

there should be a considerable swell in the water after it leaves the boat bottom, common set up on stock is split the 8 water inlet holes with the bottom of the boat with both being level but with that much set back i aint sure till i saw what was happening back there

The way I was taught was for every inch of setback come up a 1/4 inch. Main thing is water pressure but I know absolutely jack crap about glastrons???

I trust you've rebuilt the transom, etc. Before hanging all that chit back there.
One can only hope the boat's a CVX17. That way at least you have a chance of survival.
Ballsy move hangin a 200 on a 18" jackplate behind it.
I'm going to reserve judgement til I see a pic ...'71 Glastron V153 - Composite rebuild - Unceremoniously wrecked

You might want to rethink that. Why the setback? Its not the sort of rig that would benefit from it in really any way?
