300XS Powerhead....Where to buy and how much?

Over the weekend I was running my boat and my 2007 300XS locked up. I took off the pulley and spun the compressor and verified that it spins freely. This motor is completely locked up now and will not spin...rather than taking it to the shop and running through millions of different options and pouring more and more money into it I thought I would just buy a re-manufactured powerhead and drop it right on. Where can I buy one and how much will it cost? Also, boat is in SoFla...does anyone rebuild motors down there? thanks for all the help!

Mercury doesnt sell drop on powerheads for the 300xs....they sell a long block which needs to be dressed with your electronics and fuel system ETC....

Talk about setting someone up for failure, 9 times out of ten its the rigging or powerhead dressing that's the cause of the engine popping.

I just called TNTCustom marine. The service dept. said they won't rebuild blown up 300XS because by the time you order the parts and the labor involved, it'll be cheaper to just buy the powerhead. this is proly in line with why DiamondMarine won't rebuild 300XS?

The powerhead for a 2013 300XS is: $7,345.55 (the serial number for the engine that I have is a 2013 model year)

perhaps Fuller Marine can chime in and add to this thread.

    .

TNT also added that you need to use your old: intake, brackets, alternator

"This is like a longblock" Ghost28 is correct!

we rebuild alot of optis here, the key is to go thru everything otherwise you wind up where you started with a blown up engine. they are not cheap to rebuild because of this, and because of the liability aspect. every base must be covered, and i will usually insist that i see the engine on the boat and running, and go for the first seatrial with it to ensure there are no problems. its a shame that merc doesn't have a reman drop on program with these engines, 99% of the time it is something wrong with the dressings that go on the long block(as jim said previously)
