Like said, every 50 hrs or yearly, depending on how much idle and lower rpm use. I use Engine Tune and a gas additive called Carbon Guard, both made by BRP. Sea Foam makes product very similar to Carbon Guard I have used also. Never stuck a ring on either my 2.6 Xflows, but when I do run them, I don't idle around much.

Mix 1 can of Seafoam with 3 qts of premix gas. It will smoke like hell, and your neighbors may call the fire dept., but I've gained 7-10 compression per cylinder with this method. It's amazing what a little carbon does to the rings. I do it twice a year.

This sounds like a results oriented method. Do you leave it sit, as mentioned earlier. How long? Got a new can of sea foam in the garage.

I always used Mercs Power Tune till I went EFI.Just try and hit all 6 on a horn or XRI with the straw. Run a strong dose in a small 2 1/2 gallon tank with OMC's Carbon Guard after motor is warm pull the plugs and a good shot of power tune in all cyl after pulling the plugs and blow the crap out next day. BTW it's good to use an old set of spark plugs for the de-carbon then put the regular ones in after the smokey run.
Lately have made a habit of using Carbon Guard on every tank "got a case of it" can read the numbers on my piston tops after many hours of use.

Everyone that has trouble with build up is because they cheep out on oil or motor runs like crap to start with . 1964 50 horse 2. Stroke ran every year till 1988 when the rings finally gave up . Motor was never touched other then carbs cleaned , All ways ran wide open And spotless when we pulled the heads .Same thing with snowmobiles . Run for hours and hours wide open never an issue and never had snake oil in em to gum crap up... People that dump tons of crap in the motors trying to make them run better is what keeps the snake oil company's rich ... ... Now flame away ...

In all fairness, like I said, enricher valve was manually half open for a long time. Ran rich for a while. I get the cheap oil part, I thought quick silver was good enough. Clearly, my bad. I know I got some build up, just wanna clean her up and go boating. Robby, thanks for the input, wish I was close enough to pop a top with you, I have no doubt I would enjoy the company.
