Poppet valve
I have a 1984 200 merc and replaced the impeller earlier this year and noticed the water flow out of the tell tale was sputtering. I removed the thermostats and the water flow was very strong so, I don't think I have any blockage. I replaced the thermostats and ran the motor. Seemed flow a little better at idle. At speed I had a lot of water blowing out the exhaust with the water out of the tell tale getting hotter until the alarm went off. I've just ordered a poppet valve assuming that this is the culprit. Is there anything else I should look for or consider servicing?
Thanks,
Ron

sealant rubbers from the water tube in your midsection
one in your adapter plate and the one in your impeller housing(gearcase)
maybe something went wrong with assembling
