quick looper bore question
I'm just trying to learn more about the looper motors. I have a 1987 2.7 looper that's .030 over already in all 6 holes. It doesn't need it right now, but I was wondering how you take it to 3.0 liter specs? I would think it could be bored from its 3.50 bore to 3.65 to do this. Can that be done or does it have to be re-sleeved to accomplish this? Can finger ports be added to the 2.7 motor? Are the pistons specific to finger ported blocks?

2.7 sleeves are longer than 3.0 sleeves but 2.7s can be bored to 3.0. 2.7 are open deck same as early 3.0 but the 2.7 sleeves go to the bottom of the bore. To make a very long story short your 2.7 can go to 3.0 spec. Yes the pistons are different and yes fingerports can be added to your 2.7. "MOST" 2.7 blocks (did you see the quotes and capital letters?) do not have the bosses to add proper fingerports as the later open deck or all closed deck motors have.
Long story short, leave yours alone find a FP block and make a winter project out of it.Last edited by baja200merk; 01-12-2012 at 11:44 PM.

I don't have any plans to do any internal motor work to this 2.7 motor unless something goes horribly wrong this summer. I was mainly looking for info as I don't know near enough about the loopers or any outboard for that matter. I'm cramming as much info into this little brain of mine as possible. Haha

You need specialized boring equipment to do it right and cut a recess back in the bottom so it can be honed straight.
