What kind of 75hp Scott engine covers are these?
http://youtu.be/4rbO1PaBIhY
Calling the "Twin experts" !!!!!
This is an old Route 66 TV show filmed at Lake Havasu dated 1962.
This shows twin 75 Scotts on either a Fantasy hydro, or something else, but there is a Powercat and some other race boats in this video.
What is the boat these engines are on, and all the other boats in this show?
P. S. I got this link from: bigfinboats.comLast edited by mercboat; 09-13-2011 at 07:29 PM.

Not sure on those covers.. I am guessing that they were something made up just for the TV boat..
Never seen anything like that in my experience in the "real world".
The boat is a Power Cat bubble cat.. I will watch this again when I get home tonight and see what
else I can find on there.. Really cool... Thanks for posting ...

Yeah, that's what I thought too, some "Made for TV" covers, though it also looks like an advertisment for Mcculloch racing with that name on the boat and several other places. There is a scene showing a 17 ft Flying Scott boat being trailered through a parking lot.
I was hoping to see a Scott Hydro too!!, but this would have been too early for that boat to be there.
As far as I can tell, the first Scott Hydro ski boat prototype was completed by the fall of 1961, since it was at the 1962 New York Boat Show in late Jan. 1962.

I saw that 17 ft package. I think Jack Oxley and Bob Kies are some of the extras in the background

I think if you look at this again...these are direct exhaust engines rather than exiting in the center section... This was Scott's test center.....they may even have been turbocharged.... Why make up "special" cowlings for a TV show when there are so many stock cowlings in the show?
20 Foot Switzer Wing 2 X S3000 (Dust'n the Wind II)
!6 foot Wood Eltro Vee (2X Merc 1500's) (Dust'n the Wind IV)
15 foot Powercat 15C (2 X Merc 1500) (Dust'n the Wind III)
(Single engine boats are lacking something)
15’ Wooden Switzer Shooting Star...
16 foot Lee Craft Merc S 3000-(Gold Dust II)
(The exception proves the rule)

Can any of you computer wizards out there get a still picture of these engines off this video?
This bears a closer look at.
AND, what are the other boats in this video?

Wasn't the Mc/Scott 75 a three cylinder?
I think I remember one on Dad's first Lyman."have you met my little fly named scream?"

I tried to freeze them in hi-def and they are still pretty blurry.
Yes, the 60 & 75 were triples ... the 32/40/45 were twins. In the close ups they sure look like twins.
If anyone is truly interested in this call Jack Oxley in CA and ask him. I am sure he still remembers at least a few details about the shoot.

Holy Crap, why have I never seen this before? To start with, I had to wonder if that runway they landed on was the same one that Pruett and I flew J2 Gyrocopters of in 1971. Then, as I watched the program, I remembered that many Route 66 programs had a lousy story line and you could never figure out what the heck was going on. This was no exception...which was good because I could just watch the boats. I will try to capture the video and provide some stills.

If you listen to the sound effects they used for those motors it seems like they were suposed to be turbine motors. Chrysler had a batch of turbine cars out for testing about that time and turbines were all the rage then.

I ran this thread by the "Scott" Grandmaster, Dick Davis the other other night. Without hesitation, (in all of the close up and dock footage) they are only 25's with Hollywood hoods, and water hoses stuck up the exhaust to give that rear water discharge / turbine look. I surmise they didn't trust the actors or were avoiding liability issues.
Now, if you look at the flyby that occurs at 13:41 of the video, it appears to be a 590 or 630 powered boat, more than likely, the same XX boat that appeared in one of the original 630 Ads. (it was a helicopter view for Scott power) It's obviously the same boat that Blows off the field in the final segment.
I for the life of me can't find a copy of that AD, I was sure there was one here on the site. Sam will know the AD.
Got to love Hollywood!
