Should have it back to RobF this week...... This project is a perfect example fo the snowball effect. Doing a bunch more then I initially was going too.

At this point we are reshooting the entire hull, I am still debating redoing the topside while I am at it.

Imron, the boat is already painted to begin with. I personally hate gel coat. It is too much work to sand and polish,harder to repair, and cosmetically does not compare to paint!

I changed the tack out and same prob, new sender for the temp same prob. Here is the link to a thread i started in another area, anyone have any ideas?

u have the tach set properly? it should be set on 12 pole i think, there are setting for 4 cyl 6 cyl 8 cyl and theres another it says 12 pole i believe the tach must be switched to this. u bought the aftermarket sending units for the temp gauge and its still not working?

I figured since you were at a glass shop you were doing it in Gel.

All true, but if your boat sits for days or weeks at a time, it wont blister like imron.

why would you leave a boat with no bottom paint for weeks and weeks?

you can usually get at least 10 days, then you should remove and let it dry out a day. My old boss did this for years, he would leave the boat in for 2 weeks, then pull it out, wash it, let it dry a day or two, then put it back in.

Post mold gelcoat applications are not the same as boats with gel applied in the mold, when restoring a boat if you want it as close to perfect as you can get it paint is the way to go

I understand what you guys are saying as far as ease of finishing. I think its also personal preference though. I personally like having the boat as close to the way it originally was as possible. If its a boat I liked the looks of new, I like keeping the original color scheme interior & outside stripes. I have a 69 Z28 and I would never change the original look right on down to the steal wheels with trim rings & center caps. As far as the Gel, I'm not a finish guy but I know a couple who can do perfect work with blueprinting & Gel and I would personally pay the extra price to be as close to original as possible. I redid the bottom of my last Velocity & did it in Gel. One of my best friends is in the boating industry and his boat is done with paint. To each his own. Anyway, from what I have seen so far your work speaks for itself. I'm sure Mikes boat will look great & give him a little more in the speed dept. Tell Mike its a long winter. He needs a snowmobile for you to paint up for him.
