Hey Denny, In 1971 My dad and my uncle (Denny Francis and Denny Landers,no kidding)decided they were going to ski the entire Mississippi River. They took a sidewinder like that up as far as you could drive a boat.(Coon Rapids MN) They tried two times with that boat but kept hitting crap in the river and wrecking props and lower units. They ended up buying a cobalt jet drive and went to the gulf of mexico in 11 days.The only reason they did it was to get on the Johnny Carson show. My dad drove the boat and my uncle skied on some wood Cypress Garden Dick Pope specials.The only time my dad skied was into the gulf(there was also a spotter/photographer with them) It would of been cool if the sidewinder would of made it though!

Neat story, had to be good guy's, named Denny,LOL, just trickin. The Mississippi had to almost be a creek up that far. The old cobalt jets were heavy, but built well. That would've been a blast, runnin the length of the Mississip. Something to talk about for ever.

OK..back to my Flatty..the build. Yep, Trailer was a salted out junk, got free, a neighbor. Kept the fenders, the two main rails back, and built a whole new frame, axle, spring, under carriage. Motor done by my Mecr guru, while I did the trailer. He just did the guts, I did the paint and final bolt up. I''ll shoot ya two links here, my "oldfastboats"..yahoo site. Its free to look over. Jesus Denny I just looked through that whole thread. Man you did an awsome job on that boat. Didnt know you could paint so good.

Thanks sunapee. Thats the first time in along time. I was a painter on a factory paint line 37 or so years ago, for about a year, so not much experience .
I call it my brand new 1973 sidewinder.

That bayliner is a good boat. There are a lot of them on the ILL. river. Run up and down the river all day long.

Friend had a 67 396 in HS..(plus others, the Goats, vettes, 442's, etc..1964 to 1968..)

Dude down the block is rebuilding a 67..not a frame off, but doing major work, and the whole interior had come out...been at it about the same time, as you.

He's only 33..600 sportbike, and a KTM 250 Endero ,..(ya.. boat too for mama) that I keep asking why ya even have a FRONT WHEEL!, that 250!

We are private here, road wise..and he will come by, dark ..wheel in the air for the whole block, ..headlight..?..snooping for squirrels?. dude can ride.

The Sidewinder? You? No need to go on me..looks SUPER...my Merc guru has 2, 15/16 ft, 2 G-3's, and lives a lake..he also says.."if it aint a 150 'TOP" on any, its his fav..the WELL worked over XS150..guys nuts, and the best person ya ever wanna meet..(ex COP!..and he will "bracelet" ya in a second!..good people, know the old "TOPS"..rebuilds on the side. Pix him, on my Yahoo site too.

I still love ..DEARLY, ya old Midwest dudes, and Dudettes..ya got something, not explained..(like a good Happy Hour"?...and a touch "crazy"!)..tough people back there..I miss them. Planning a road trip back 2012..gas up Morris..hang around..still there..?...love to BS ya..

Same kind of guy here Robby. Tony Sitar. His Dad was a lake x guy in the 60s and 70s, tony is a merc guru, knows em like the back of his hand. He did mine while I was doing the boat.
