obama Wants To Track Your Energy Use, In your Home!

Seems he wants to now put moniters in your home, he says so that they can help you keep your energy costs down by showing you when to turn on and off things and what times are the best to use stuff efficently! You know the extra charges and the cameras aren't far behind. God forbid you put you A/C too low or your heat too hi!
Yet he'll keep the temp, heat, in the white hopuse at 80 degs..

In Florida, we have the "Avon Lady Law." If they show up on my front lawn, they may need to dodge some lead first!!!

If Bush had the temp at 75 the tree huggers would be every news cast hammering him on it!

Do you have any kind of link to this mandate? I searched but couldnt find anything, except grants to build smart homes. These mandates are manufacturer driven, I deal with it all the time. Gfi's, arc-faults, tamperproof outlets... all put into code by the manufacturers.

I dont like the idea of the gov. forcing anything, Its much better to have incentive on rates than to force stuff down peoples throats. Ive done a lot of research on smart homes, and some ideas are really good. Building automation is nothing new, its just slow to get acceptance in residential sectors. Most homes in my area have saver switches on their A/C, it shuts off the condenser for like 10 mins/hour, I never even notice the difference, and I got a rate cut. The downside is that the technology is expensive, and is more practical for the 5000+ sq ft home. As far as tracking your usage, they already do that.

Im all for home automation, but Id like to see how they would mandate this? Im assuming it would be on future new construction, and as long as it isnt profitable, the manufacturers arent going to be installing ethernet ports on their appliances anytime soon.

I heard him call for this in a news clip, it's true he does want to have this as a major part of his energy plan.

As far as them already "Doing It" this goes to another level as it will tract what temps you have your heat-A/C at and what hrs of the day that you use your washer-dryer and other things! Reason for this just might be to mandate extra charges for certain usages???

Very well could be, with government, nothing would surprise me. I would hope that it would be a way to further the efficiency of the grid through load shedding. The stuff Ive read on is ultimately programmed through the user, and even the programs could be over-ridden. If this truly was to become an energy tax, that would be . If you ever get a chance to see a smart home in your area, check it out. Have you ever seen an oven and refrig ducted to your hvac? Theres some cool ideas.

The only way to survive this era is to have the facts, so that you know exactly how to make the best of it, and maybe come out ahead. If you run on rumor, well, where's the reparation checks.

You know if our great, great grandparents knew how much trouble it caused they would have picked their own cotton.

Now on to energy usage. Time of day rates, RF cutoff switches on AC units. Already exists, It's really not a bad idea. I signed up for the AC cutoff. I dont think we are smart enough for the time of use.

The cost of generating electricity varies throughout the day. During peak periods its higher. So instead of "Reason for this just might be to mandate extra charges for certain usages???" it actually can give you a break for using power during off periods.

    From Baltimore Gas and Electric
    http://www.bge.com/portal/site/bge/m...031e0da6176a0/

    Time-of-Use

Are TOU rates right for you?

They may be just the right choice. If you can control the time of day that you consume energy, TOU rates may help you save money. Think about when you use your dishwasher or do your laundry and then check the charts. Summer or winter, most of the low-rate time periods are nights and weekends.

    How does it work?

When you sign up for the TOU rate plan, we’ll replace your electric meter with a Time-of-Use meter, at no charge. It monitors how much electricity you use and when you use it.So think about the time of day when you use energy most.

If someone is home all day, Time-of-Use rates probably aren’t best for you. But if you’re home mostly nights and weekends, Time-of-Use rates could be your chance to trim your electric bill.If you purchase your electricity from a supplier other than BGE, BGE’s generation and transmission Time-of-Use rates do not apply.
TOU plans , and throttled usage plans are a consumer choice, a matter of contract between you and your power supplier.

What the mad Kenyan was proposing is government control down to the thermostat level to fight global warming.

    Just the facts.
    1. CO2 is not a polutant, it is a nutrient. Try to make any green plant grow without it.

    2. Earth atmospheric CO2 is at about 360 ppm or so. Historically it's gone from 200 to 6000 and back several times.

    3. CO2 does not cause warming. Atmospheric CO2 would naturally go up with warming of the oceans, because there's a lot more CO2 in the oceans than in the air. Any kid that has shaken and opened a warm pop would intuitively know the physics involved. On the graphs, CO2 rise lags temperature, thus it can't be the cause. It is the effect.

    4. Earth temperature closely tracks with solar activity. It doesn't track in any way with man's use of "fossil" fuels.

    5. If you noted the term fossil in quotes. That's because true science is discovering that oil is being formed continuously in an abiotic process, probably from methane coming from earth's magma. "Depleted" oil fields are refilling. Russia is drilling very deep in basement rock to find the oil it's marketing.

In conclusion, the solution to most of our problems is to burn the coal and oil we have, and dig for more. The energy fuels our prosperity, which can be "spread around," which is how world economy normally works. The CO2 generated will in a small way improve our natural surroundings just as it has for the last 60 years. We can enjoy the earth's recovery from the little ice age with less storms and a little more warmth. We can expect the oceans to rise inches, not feet. (The hydrology cycle changes with temp also, dummies, I mean scientists.)

What scares me is the millions of uneducated, but indoctrinated "useful idiots" that are pressing for the "change".

It is more appropriately called the "Castle Doctrine." Here is a brief article on the matter from the NRA. http://www.nraila.org/Issues/FactShe...ad.aspx?ID=188

The joke is that if the Avon lady won't get off your porch, you could shoot her and be justified. Please note I don't condone shooting the Avon lady.

If the Gov't wants to come in my house, they better have a warrant and a police force behind them. Otherwise, they will be considered an intruder and it is our duty to uphold Florida law.
