The pot itself is meaningless, the point is it's HIS responsibility. By his very own story and lot in life HE IS A TARGET. The photographer while probably a looser punk in real life, he's NOT the problem. Some of you are shooting the messenger. When you're a celebrity/hero like him you HAVE TO BE ON YOUR GUARD 24/7. If he or anyone else thinks that's the first and last parasite looking for some bank with a picture or fall of a celebrity, get a life. It comes with the territory.
By most accounts Phelps' endorsements have been valued at $100,000,000.00 that's a STAGGERING amount of money for a 23 year old swimmer. BUT none the less it's his for the taking. Being irresponsible enough to potentially throw it away for something as stupid and looser like as a bong goes well beyond rediculous. YES he's worked for MANY YEARS and eat, drank and slept the grueling Olympic athelete training and lifestyle and now is in a position to reap the rewards for excelling at his craft. WHY EVEN BOTHER TAKING ANYKIND OF CHANCE???
You know what they say about a fool and his money...

If that is Michael Phelps and he did smoke weed, who cares? Anybody who thinks an athlete is going to lose endorsment money because he smoked pot obviously never sees todays professional atheletes.
Toke it up Phelps! You deserve a little fun after representing our country so well in the Olympics.

Yeah, I really want kids to look up to him now, just another worthless sports figure making millions. You can say dope is fine, but it still causes huge problems in our society that we all pay for (like 50% of all crime)...that is the real problem with it.

I thought that was pretty much a given, though I imagine for all drugs. When was the last time you drove through DT Flint? I don't really care its just another thing I should not have to pay for like the obese diabetics, the loafers on disability, all the lawyers, the lib congress, etc, etc. It all adds up to a nice boat I don't have. And I don't think kids today need any help being bigger losers than they are.

Most of us have all been there at some point in our lives doing reckless things that we look back on and say...how did I survive that. I am not a prude and have done many things in my life that I attribute to age and just having fun, some regrets and others just good times. The point is he is representing our Country every time he goes out there. I agree with the statement roll models for kids should be parents not athletes. I think they make way to much money anyway. So if he is representing our Country and making all this money why take that chance and risk everything for just a high that lasts a couple of hours, makes you eat things you normally wouldn't and allows you to make stupid decisions. I am anti-drugs and couldn't handle my children doing them and I don't want them to think it is ok because the people who are suppose to set an example for our children are doing them themselves...children need to learn it is not ok to do drugs and that they can't go out and lead a productive life if they do them. Believe it or not in this day and age pot does lead them to other more dangerous drugs life is not like it was for us back in the 70's. If he wanted to get high and unwind then he should have went to a place with people that he could trust and do what ever he wanted not go to a party where there were probably a bunch of loser anyway just waiting to make some money on him. I don't think he should lose his status over a mistake that he made because of inexperience and youth but he really should have thought more about the consequences of what happens when an athlete is caught doing drugs, and he did it right out in the open. His accomplishments are extraordinary and I hope they give him another chance he is just a kid and everyone deserves another chance and everyone make mistakes........just my personal opinion.......

I'm not going to get into a pointless argument about legalizing pot. MI legalized medical pot and I don't have a problem with it. MI like most other states has nearly outlawed cigarettes, so how could you legalize pot? All I am saying is the crime and social damage is considerable and costly and I don't want to pay it. IMO the government does very little to stop it now, so it is nearly legal anyway. Not that it matters, this government might make it legal soon enough so everyone can do acid and you'll just have to trade your guns in for it.
As far as kids, some parents don't raise their kids. Some do but that does not mean they will come out perfect. However I can't see how any drug use is going to improve your performance in life. Do you guys all watch that addict TV show and laugh at those people?

While I don't laugh at the addicts on TV, I have no sympathy for them either. Nobody held a gun to anyone's head and told them to smoke crack. All the bs about marijuana being a gateway drug is rediculous too. I smoked pot. I never did coke, heroine, meth, pills, ect. I knew those were harmfull drugs. While I know pot is not healthy, I also know that when I didn't feel like smoking it anymore I just didn't smoke anymore. No addiction, no withdrawl. I never stole money to pay for it, I never did anything illegal because of it. Except for smoking it. People bitch about how much money is wasted in prisons and court systems. If pot was legal imagine the money we would save. Hell, tax the hell out of it like cigs and booze. Thousands of non-violent marijuana offenders would not be tying up the legal system or filling up our over crowded jails. Violent criminals wouldn't have to be paroled early to make room for a dude who had a pound of weed. I'm not making a case for the legalization of all narcotics but really...IT'S WEED! Not nearly as dangerous or as addictive as the cigarettes I legally buy and smoke or the alcohol I legally buy and drink.

I've stayed out of this one but can't help myself any more.
Hell of a difference between smokin' a little weed and the drug problem that plagues this country. I don't even consider weed a drug, and don't even get me started on prescription drug addicts.
