Never realised we were at the making of history, just seemed like a good idea at the time, enjoyed it so much, carried on and on and on, stopped to take breath and Viola we talking reunion party. That sneaky old bastard ' THE TIME THIEF ' has a lot to answer for. Steve or Sherlock should start a new thread, with the time, date and place of this here 'POWERBOAT HAPPENING', you know what cunning devils racers are, -----didn't know about it----------forgot the date----------nobody told me--------- gout was playing up ---------Sally wouldn't come--------had to work late on the puter etc.. Just announce it SOON. 11 months is not long. Save some of the romance for me.

Steve: I posted earlier in this thread about my one time visit to the lake in the mid 90's I'm just an outsider but it would be great if we could get alumni as well fans alike together for a show & tell,& if I read your post correctly, your trying to find a contact, anybody within the Kirchmen family to talk to? If its a go, I know my 1250 is up for it
, lets make history again at the lake !
Thanks Steve, Rick Geary.

He only told the truth John, we WERE and still ARE a pain in his ass, we costalot !!!!!!!! Last 2 years Mercury have spent upwards of $6,000,000 on R@D with the new leg for the offshore scene [ so i have been told ]. They didn't get much of a return !!!! Guess i would be a tad pissed at boat racers in particular if it had come out of my pocket.
I think you are right though, about return to the lake. If you ever went back to Elsinore or Havasu you'll know what i mean----------the time was THEN not now.
WPB is fine with me, it's the folk that are important, not the place.
Have told "her indoors" we are going to Florida next year

I was in no way suggesting the Lake as the place to have main get together. Jim Hauser has that well in hand in Palm Beach. He and I have already talked about it and I am willing to help him in any way I can. As to Lake X, I have suggested that some (and that includes me) might want to vist hallowed ground again. Yes, I know it won't be the same and, for some, it would be dissapointing. But for others, it might be exhilirating. I have returned to other places that were important to me just to be there again. Also, there are many, who have never been there, that just might want to fulfill some personal desire to have been there. I did in fact visit the Lake a few times after I left the world of boating. My suggestion was, and still is, to try to arrange a side visit, either before or after the Palm Beach event. The purpose would be to satisfy anyone that would like to make a quick visit to an incredibly historical (to boating fans) place. I will continue my effort to contact the right people to allow access. I have recieved the name and contact information for a person that I believe can help. Best Regards to All - Steve Sirois

Again apologize for geeting off of post a little bit,, But with general info regarding PB get to-gether, The Offshore Super Series race goes from Oct 19th -25th,,,,,,,,, Will meet with Miss Geico group (Who are located here in town and give a date for our event to work with their race scedule) Early thoughts are The Buccaneer Marina where parking is good as well as water dockage,,,, Can accomodate small group to several hundred,,, Like the gathering at Jimbos in Miami everything on a cash and carry basis,,,,,,,,,Seeroy has thoughts regarding obtaining photos in advance so we might put together a slide show, of our favorite stuff, along with somehow identfying ourselves, along with some other ideas, am enjoying the momentum we are receiving, and please T2X let throw Seeroy's camera in the water,,,, Jackie, I will volunteer to find your grand-child(The sea-ray girl) and make her aware of the time frame,,,,,,,, I think all I have to do is get a hold of Brownie for that project.........

Wis vs Fla
Power washed the back patio, broke into a sweat, it's almost to warm to ride the bike, might have to wait till it cools off some.
Made it to the Packer game, started to snow in the fourth quarter, 2 hours back to Oshkosh with 70 thousand drunks on the road.
Rode out to Lake X this week, they have a new guard shack, and I know how to get in, but I'm sworn to secrecy, not much to see anymore.

A different twist...
Any stories of Charlie Strang? He doesn't even show up on a google search. Still around? Having been an early times racer, did he ever get behind the wheel?

Charlie was the last intercollegiate outboard racing champion when outboard racing shut down for WWII. After the war, it did not resume as a college sport.
Charlie is still around as National Commissioner of APBA and Nascar
When I Google him, I get tons of hits

A while back I heard that Charlie was involved with NASCAR working as a technical advisor,,,,,,, He sure has the engineering brain, for it I know he was one of the highest Grade points average out of some engineering school, like MIT,,,,,,,,, From old Mercury rumors, I heard Charles Alexander had surpassed his college scores,,,,,,,,, Both brilliant engineers,,,,,,,

Charlie's position at Nascar makes him the final say in all appeals and penalties. If you ever wondered who had the final say of a tricky or confusing ruling ...

JFL - you got it so tough! Snow is piled up higher than my mailbox and supposed to get more next week! Washed the truck in the garage today to get the salt off and figure out what color it really is - hell, it is white! Trying to talk wife into letting me leave here in late January and fly her down later - I think it's a great idea. Maybe we need a "Lake X in the 90's" thread - we had some good times there. I can email you a snow picture if you'd like -

I had an excellent conversation today with Doug & Alice Janisch. After the holidays are over I will have some very interesting & fun stories about the Thunderbird Drifter-Cruise houseboat episodes to include the 1967ski-trip up the East Coast to the 1967 Montreal Expo followed by the harrowing trip back down the Mississippi River & across the Gulf of Mexico. Acouple of years I wrote a story about the storm they encountered in the Gulf.....However, I got many of the deatils wrong. Now I have the correct story. Doug, Cotton Simms, a Photographer, and a Thunderbird Fiberglass man are incredibly fortunate to have made it through that storm alive. Eventually, there will also be at least one story about the Houseboat in the 1967 Bahama 500. - Steve
