I have been holding a tiller arm on a outboard since I was 5yrs old.
All of those year I had only one Vac powered fuel pump issue and thats because it was old.... In the 6 years I have ran Electric fuel pumps I have had SOME problem every year.. The last time in rough water one of the 2 magnets in the pump came loose and was hitting the armature and blew the main fuse on the engine harness.. Leaving me without a running engine AGAIN because of a fuel pump. Thanks to HazzMatt I got a on-plane tow back to the ramp. Back to reliable Vacuum powered pumps… until I have enough saved for EFI That is. LOL2006 Action Marine Comp

I kinda wondered why folks were going to electric fuel pumps, is they could get the volume out of a simple, reliable, CHEAP vacuum pumps !
In the Hi Po car world, there is a company now making a mechanical pump for EFI retro fit applications. They claim their volume is high enough for racing. Bolts into the regular fuel pump hole. They say it can run "returnless", but I got to believe that the pulsation, even after their "special" regulator, are pretty bad (they do sell a return type regulator also).
Oh yeah, suction, returnless fuel systems make the C.G. happy !

I have been tempted to go with an electric pump but I just can't let go of the old reliable VRO fuel pump. With oil-line blocked of course.

I have several VRO pumps, That is one of the Best pumps by far. I just could not bring myself to mount one of those jarvic hearts next to the evolution intake.. I had to do somthing different. These are off a 2.6GT. Twin pumps, twin pulse lines from seperate cylinders. Simple and Sweet!

I've always wondered about this, I have yet to see a carb sled with an electric pump, although they mostly have no battery.
Some of them run stupid high RPM. But really, are there cases when a stock pump is not enough?

Carbs on a mod motor may require an extra pump like in my case.
The hassles and extra maintaince and finaly a new pump failure at the worst possible time was the last straw.2006 Action Marine Comp
