rich 260 ?
what could be the problem with an analog 260 that runs rich like the enrichener is activated all the time? i've unhooked the enrichener wire with no change. i made 2 short runs to clean it out but it's still rich. it ran fine last time out. i always let the pump run a few seconds before starting the first time on each trip. i had the enrichener wire hooked up to choke switch. i usually have to hold in the switch and crank 4 or 5 seconds before it will start. this time it started immediately which it never has done before. could it be a leaking injector?

Vacumn TPI 's are notorious BAD ACTORS on the older analog 260's engines.. Check the air barbs from the plenium to the ECU and regulator for plugging .. If they are clear my bet is the anmalog exterior TPI is it. Sorry BUT Mercury does'nt make them any more..Might need to ask Santa for a digital PCU or ACU from Brucato for Christmas , you'll be miles ahead instead of trying to use the analog ECU...
My opinion,

i think the barb on the horn was clogged. it sounds better on the hose but it still started too quick. i won't know for sure until i put it in the water. which box would you recommend for a fishin 260? i don't want the lean mid-range problems i've heard so much about. THANKS JAY. your service to the outboard community is invaluable.

The A-48 is my choice of the MERCURY digital boxes for recreationa use and it is user friendly in the "crusing" range ( 4000- 5500 rpms ) also you could still use your gold 39 lb reg and stock fuel pump... If one of those becomes ilusive to find I'd opt for the Brucato PCU/ACU .. Tony does a great job in custom dialing one on before sent and service after the sale is second to none...
Good luck and thanks for the kind words,
JayJay @ JSRE

it's still rich. it started in 2 cranks without choking it and then flooded out almost immediately. i have to crack the throttle to get it to start after that. is there a way to test the TPI? i've got an efi bridgeport. does it have the same TPI? i can't find an a48 box. nothing around here but a bunch of big slow tubs with truck motors.

Sometimes a bad rectifier can cause the ECU to go rich as well. Are all of the plugs wet?

got her fixed. found another plugged fitting. this thing doesn't have a TPI that i can find. the tpi wires go to the box behind the throttle arm. it has an A27 box. THANKS JAY AND TONY
