These guys and their content is exactly what the industry needs. People willing to test the limits, who understand when to set the ego aside and try again another day. He's a military contractor and his wife is a police officer and a swat hostage negotiator. They were clearly exhausted to their limits, and pushing into that storm could have been a fatal choice, which would do nothing but hurt the industry, their families, and the people they impact outside of boating. For what? A record most people hadn't even heard of? Joke about their eating habits all you want, but they have my respect, and they should have yours. They could be spending their off time doing things a lot easier.

You won't see many owners of fresh MTIs, 500s, or outboards in general, taking them on runs a fraction this tough, and the fact that the hull, motors, and gearcases all held up certainly surpassed a lot of people's expectations. It gives potential buyers faith that those products will be reliable on a smaller scale.

A similar attempt with 2 stroke 2.5s would have been a real knee slapper, and hasn't happened for a reason. Mercury has continued to raise the bar, and it's awesome to see the potential!
