I had a subscription to cycle world back then. Always wanted a V65 Magna after their write up on it. Had me a lot of different bikes nothing as wild as a Maico that’s cool Chaz I’m sure I read that article back then lol. I still have snow goer 1 and a bunch of others too from back then but my bro took all the cycle world stuff he still bikes like crazy I gave up the two wheels long long ago.

exactly! I posted about that before but 800x3=2400 which is 2.4L for the non metric crowd. Apply the math and you get a 2.4L pumping out 540hp!!! That burns as clean or cleaner? Than a modern four stroke. Think about the freakin potential there. Absolutely insane this is not being built

I’ve seen tons of those 850 etecs with over 5000miles on them still running as good as new. For you non sled guys out there the magic number for sleds is 4000miles and it’s kind of smoked. Usually by that amount of mileage the engine needs a freshen or full tilt rebuild, the suspension needs a rebuild, the track is smoked, basically it’s time for new or rebuild it’s useable life is over. Not these days, it’s normal now to see double this. Granted the four stroke sleds out there I’ve seen 30,000 mile sleds on the original motor but the rest of it still goes through those service cycles. Unless your some granny out there driving 30moh everywhere but if you ride like most of us ride those numbers are pretty accurate.

Point of all that is if I could buy a 540hp 2.4L two stroke outboard that needs a rebuild every 500 hours? I couldn’t care less

Sled motors have no low end torque. So those numbers are a pipe dream for moving a boat. That said my kid had 16k miles on her etec sled. Had a fuel pump, usual plugs and maintenance, a couple tracks and belts and other what not that wears out.

The impressive sled motors are the old yamaha APEX 4 cylinders. There are a ton on them still being used every season "they have kind of a cult type following". Remember Bobby Davis put over 12K on his in 60 days trouble free. There are several documented with over 60K on them and there are a bunch of them out there making big power with turbos.
