Sea Ray Pachanga II
I kind of stumbled onto one the other day. My brother has a thing for Mercedes. He is restoring a 1980's 560SEL and I helped him pick up an 1988 parts car. The seller has a Pachanga in excellent condition.
Not it but identical: http://www.boattrader.com/listing/19...a-27-103019949
My parents bought a Sea Ray for awhile in the 1980's, new in 1986. So I'm familiar with them of that era. I like the looks of the Pachanga line. So naturally I asked about it. He was surprised I knew it was a Sea Ray under the cover. He just finished restoring her, remanufactured Mercruiser 454 and drive, etc.. with zero run time in the boat. Inside it looks like a showroom new boat, not a spec of dirt on the motor or in the bilge. Only minor flaws on the hull a few minor gaps in the red stripe line.
So naturally I said if you want to sell, give me a call. He planned on using it for his retirement. He is around 65, maybe a little older and just was diagnosed with COPD. So he is selling her, just hasn't put up an ad yet.
My plan is too lightly use it on our family Lake Shasta trip. Parents RV is our transportation, parents, me and brothers, SIL and nephews, etc. are going end of June. Parents motor home is 40' and towing a trailer it can be a max length of 65". So its just a little over, doubt the police will notice. Its the perfect size for the trip.
Might use it a few times locally, maybe do a Kelowna trip as well. But will put it up for sale basically the day I pick her up on Sat.......

is it the big one or the smaller, think they made a 22 and a 32, I worked at Sea Ray for 4.5 yrs and drove past a sign going in that said "outstanding quality in fiberglass boats" . Their attention to detail was their hallmark. espically the gel work. Raceman had one, I belive the 22. a well kept one should be a nice ride. fun out

Yes, its the 27. Back in the 1980's, I know from experience, as my parents bought a new one in 1986. Sea Ray was a high end product in those days. Ours took a beating, as it was used by us kids back then. I was 13 going on 14 when they bought it. And I was using it on my own from that age up until we sold it in 1990/1. A favorite pass time was jumping the BC car Ferries wakes. 400ft plus Ferries made a good wake too jump.

They made a 19 foot Pachanga as well. Came with a V6. A lot of them found small blocks stuffed into him eventually

those boats were built totally different from other sea rays, if i remember right might have been in its own factory. they had finished liners and quality was a step above, almost Formula quality.
think they had 4 models, 19,22,27 and 32Raybo Marine http://www.raybomarine.com/

Had a restoration customer call me about a 19 Pechanga. He informed me that like a lot of the other big builders they bought a smaller performance boat company out right to add to their model line. As in the Wellcraft Nova started as a company called Nova.
The sea ray Pechanga's of the 80s were very very nice boats. They never really took off due to I believe, sea ray targeting the performance crowd and that boat was way too heavy and slow to run with the 70 mile an hour boats of the day.
More of a Gentlemans sport cruiser like a formula.
Beautiful boats, always wanted a 27 or 32.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Owned a couple of P22's and a P32. Great boats, but they had a reputation for ingesting water through the exhaust. P27 actually has a roomier cabin than the P32. I couldn't even sit up straight in mine.
Oh yeah, they were built in a dedicated plant near Vonore, TN. Visited that facility a few times.Present Allisons: GT20/200 XRi (stringers up restoration by Jack Barsh), XST18/150XS/115 ADI clone (full composite restoration by Kevin Bryant), R13 (Larry Register splash)/850XS

This is an '89 that I bought new in 1990. Presently it's got a 540/575 and Blackhawk. I've never seen a single engine 27. At the time I bought my 22 the dealer also had a 27 sitting there but it had a pair of 454's. It's a shame that Brunswick won't build a 22' Pachanga just like these older ones. The newer ones, also discontinued now I think just didn't do it for me. Bigger, fatter with 496 and Bravo 3.

Most 27's came with either a single 7.4 or twin 5.7's. The twin 7.4's are the most rare.

i remember painting one of those few years after I started here. An older woman owned it since new and it had seen better days. She said she wanted it to look EXACTLY like it did when it was new. So when I removed the rub rail the original color was preserved underneath. I matched all the greens by eye exactly to what was on the boat and asked my boss, Tom, if he was sure this is what the lady wanted. he said- "she wants it the same".ooooooook
painted it and it was inside the shop we were putting the rub rail and fittings back together. She pulls into the yard, starts walking towards the shop and stops for a minute, turns around and leaves. We are all nervous- "think she hated it?"
after an hour Tom calls her and she says she was so over whelmed with emotion she had to leave lolRaybo Marine http://www.raybomarine.com/

A lot of my crazy purchases are impulse and the Pachanga was no exception. We were in Panama City Fl for a week and rode by Treasure Island Marina. They had the 27' twin on a pedestal out by the road and we pulled in to glance at it. I thought the deck on it was ugly and the salesman said he had several leftover 88's and 89's from another dealer that they bought out. He was trying to hard sell me on a blue/white '88 that had a 350 and an Alpha. I saw the green one with the Bravo and asked him about it. He said I probably wouldn't want it because it had that ole' 454 and big outdrive and it wasn't much faster than the 350, just got worse gas mileage. He spewed that yarn to the wrong guy. As it turned out he had several leftover small block ones and only the one BB '89, but that's the only one I wanted. I've never regretted it. Within about a year I swapped the 454 for a 502 that my friend at Merc got me long before you could get 'em as crate motors from Chevrolet. Then we twin turbo'd the 502, which I burned a piston in and built the 540, and later added the Blackhawk.
