Garmin GPS 12
has a reading for Maximum speed travelled since last reset(MXSPD). On the next page in the manual though, it says, " your maximum speed value may include the effects of rapid movement, such as swinging your arm while holding the unit. " This explains may 60mph dog walk.

Garmin. Just got an Etrex Vista for christmas. Love it, just got to figure out all the extra functions. The Garmen GPS Legend is a really nice unit if you are not looking to spend a huge amount of cash, and it has the top speed recall on it

I got a Garmin eTrex Legend for Christmas and have been fiddling with it some. Nice little unit. I got the TOPCO maps with it too. I wanted it primarily to use on the boat. So I can’t wait to take it out with me
As far as travelling I don’t really need it, but the price is right for a handheld GPS.

using he GPS3/Garmin
Rob,
The Gps 3 has proven very accurate for the several years that
I've used it. It is usually spot on the Chrondek speeds on my time
cards at the drags.
Regards,
SteveHead Merc-Jerk and proud of it!

GPS mounts....
http://www.ram-mount.com/
These people make excellent GPS mounts (also PDA, laptop mounts, rod holders, drink holders etc.). There are a number of different cradles that are custom made for different models of GPS. Also there are a ton of different ways to attach the whole mount to the boat/car/ bike....
Here is the link to the GPS thread from a week or so ago...

Here is a picture of my Garmin GPS III in a RAM mount, hanging from my rearview mirror in my car. It uses a U-bolt/rail mount. I use the same attachment method on my ATV.

.
Garmin only makes the GPS V now. Its the same shape and size as the III and III+ but it has updated software/features and its PC linkable.
You can get new and used GPS III, III+, and V on eBay....
The GPS Vs are expensive. I think they are around $400-$500 from places like Best Buy but I haven't looked in a while. I could be wrong.

Adam be careful
Not to butt in but be careful with that mount I see in your picture. I know it would be illegal here in VA. Most states have similar laws about view obstruction and suspending objects from rear view mirrors. It can also be a major safety issue in the event of a crash depending on how it is secured. Looks out of airbag range but that is another area to watch. An airbag deploying can turn objects like that into deadly missles if they are in the path of the bag. A little off subject but thought I would share.
P.S. I also got a Garmin E-Trex for Christmas because it has the speed recall. It is also yellow and matches my boat. Already had a Garmin 45?(I think) Used it on my other boat for diving and navigation. Really like it but no speed recall.
