That's for sure, it's a miracle. Play it at the slowest speed YT lets you play back videos.

I also think there is a dead person in the video. Go full screen and look in the upper left corner of the vid. Right by that black flag you will see a person laying in the grass. When the engine blows the person never moves. Imagine being so use to hearing engines blow up on chassis dyno's that it doesn't even get your attention.

looks to me like at the very end of his last pull the smoke went from black to clear and the revs took off , looks like to me it what has been discribed as " runaway " , always herd of a runaway diesel that cannot be controlled until it grenades . from what i've been told black smoke is too much fuel, white is too much air, that thing went clear just before it blew, who knows Fun Out

Just before it pops, you see the front end torqued down, then rises, then boom......................

Black smoke is rich mixture/ not completely burnt diesel, white smoke is un-burnt/un-ignited diesel. It did make an odd sound when the white smoke came out. Like a compressor stall on the turbo.
A runaway can be stopped if you can stop the fuel flow. Also if the engine has an emergency shutoff valve in the air intake. But I've heard if you don't hit the emergency shutoff valve quick enough it will still suck some air past and keep running but at a much lower RPM. Most Detroit Diesel 2 strokes had the air shutoff valve right before the blower.

Yea when smoke clears up, that is when it is really making boost. Mine will smoke if you are behind the turbo and start clearing up once is starts building boost.

Yep.. Turned wrench at a Oldsmobile dealer on the diesel rack back in the early 1980's when in the late 70's Olds tried there diesel auto's, if any of you are old enough to remember them. After replacing the long block or heads on these piece of **** motors daily you would always have a extra fender cover handy just in case you had to choke it out if it wanted to run away!. And they did!. Everybody would get big eyes and uneasy if you heard one start to run up!!.

They were nasty azz motors. They didnt hold up, Thats why its hard to find old gas Olds V-8's , They made a gas conversion kit. You would grab a gaser and swap it out..
