So I drove this Trans Am during our southern tour.

’02, last year of the TA’s.

    Custom built 6.2 liter, LS6 based Z-06 motor w/a 6 sp manual and 4.11’s.

From a 20 roll it blew off the 275 tires and banged the 7200 rev limiter before I could find second gear!

Always loved these and always wanted one.

Told him I thought they were the most beautiful American car ever made.
The owner informed me I was wrong and took me to see his friends ‘20 Mid engine Vette.

    He was correct
The white one beside it is his wife’s ‘18!

What do you think of the TA Mo?
    I freagin love it.

Motor and trans comes out the bottom side on those things. Hard to work on, real tight engine compartment. Other than that real cool cars.

The new Vette is sharp but IMO the Ford GT is sharper.

They gotta put the V-8 back in the GT though. I know the V-6 is strong, but a Ford GT should have a SC V-8 with pushrods and a radical cam. Maybe the new godzilla engine?

I second the V-8 and also wish they would offer a manual transmission again. Three peddle, none of this paddle BS. Sports car ain't a sports car without some gears to grind.

    Forgot these pixs.

    The guy w/the Vettes?
This was in his shop behind his house.

    A 26’ DCB w/450r’s.
Showed me an app on his phone where at 105 he had 5.5% slip!
Do the math on the difference in speed between 5 and 10% and we’re better off to spend our money on wheels than motors!

He also has a 28’ pontoon in his boathouse with......, twin 450r’s!

What, is that guy in the importing-exporting business?

Nice T/A. Would be fun to have, but if I had something like that, would probably not have a drivers license for long. Mostly because of the area I live in, have to go almost 10 miles to even hit a 55 mph stretch, about 20 for a 65.

So, did you buy the T/A?

    Yes.

Gene Deputy of Texas Turbo fame built it.
Put $15k in the drivetrain alone.

    It has been 11.70’s @ 117.

Im hoping I don’t have to find out about doing a motorectomy through the bottom.

It’s a bad som bitch and if the LSs are as good as Mo says, it should run forever.

You sold out Gator? No fox body? Ahh.....just messing with ya. The trans am of those years Is a pretty machine. My fav is the white anniversary edition.

You will find changing the plugs an exercise in patience........just a heads up there my friend. And yes, I hope that you dont have to do a transplant either..........because all the rumors are true. But the ls motor, good times.

Mrichartz, for the comment on no manual option.........the manufacturers are going away with them. The multispeed automatics are taking over.......it sucks. Yes there needs to be 3 pedals.......

Gene Deputy........he had one heck of a fox body back in the day.........

Maybe we can meet up and I'll show ya why you shoulda got a fox body.......teasin in fun mr gator!!

Was a tough call but always wanted one.

Part of the thought process was:

Fox body = drag car that’s street legal, easy and cheap to work on that would be fun to make it run 11’s.

TA = fast street car, better cruiser, already runs 11’s and doesn’t need work.

And yeah, soon as we popped the hood you could see why motor goes out the bottom.
I have friends that have done it.

On the plug changes, they’re good for a 100k right
I figure probably pull front wheels and go through wheel well.

Plus, these days you can get a lift for less than $2k and I have the shop space.

Working on quotes to get it home.

Isnt that cab forward design awful? And yes, you do have to go thru the wheel well. And honestly, I dont remember about the plug changes. It was my twin brothers vehicle.....so thankfully, I didnt have to do that mess. You are right about cheap lifts!! One is on my to do list as well.....just not yet

And judging from your shop pics...........a lift will go in there nicely

Most of all Gary.........have fun. ...........
