Learn to ride a bicycle and stick with it until 18 years old. I see no other way a child born today will reach the age of 18 and not have ridden in a internal combustion engine powered car.

It's so funny to listen to naysayers that have no grasp on history. The limiting factor on EV is charging infrastructure. If you haven't been paying attention, all major petroleum producers are invested in battery/wind/solar meow. We see EV chargers at the mall or the front row of businesses meow, in the future every parking meter will have a charging station.

As far as Leno's comment, I don't think he means ICE will be gone in that period, but EV will be popular enough that the kid could be surrounded by EV. Kind of like asking a 20 year old kid meow aboot carburetor pilot jets.

But what aboot the cost of roads? But what about the cost of building places to store and dispense gasoline? But what aboot...

This happens over and over throughout time. Adapt and evolve, or become extinct. This is the real problem with our healthcare system. Close minded people are living too long. Back in the day, technology advanced as new ideas were brought in by young, energetic minds, and the old, decrepit minds went to Florida for the winter. Meow, the guy that thinks his '68 289 could still wax a Tesla 3S still has a vote, so unfortunately is still relevant.

Also, even if/when a battery goes, it can be recycled and reused. Not all the elements of that battery go bad. Most the car can also be recycled. It's the future, don't be scared of it, embrace it.

The Gasoline path already exists but I reckon the electric path will cost less and less as it moves from LPG fired plants to renewables?

IMO, hybrid power will be the way things go in the near future. Full electric just doesn't make sense on a large scale.

At present time, you're probably right. But technology moves fast. Southern/ coastal states have the benefit of solar /wind/wave generation. Guess the northern and middle states will have to get used to walking. They're fat from long winters anyway, do em some good.

And, after a few decades we will have all the residue from the batteries to deal with. I still believe we need another power source akin to hydrogen generation built into the vehicle. Still a ways into the future. Tech we can't even envision yet. Batteries are just another stepping stone imo.
