Jupiter is one of Florida's natural inlets . That's why it got a lighthouse in the early mid 1800's .
If it would have been dug by the Army corp. it would have been 100 years later and only gotten a numbered bouy. They would have made it wider . Angled a few degree's in an unnatural direction . The water would move thru it slow enough that it would silt up and need to be dredged every 3-5 years like our St. Lucie inlet does .
Our original inlet here in Martin county was about 10 miles north of Jupiter in an area called Pecks lake . Army filled it in , rich scooped it up and now call it Loblolly Bay . Locals call it the Spanish Mackerel hole ..
So yup , they dug us a St. Lucie inlet right here in Martin county . And to the north of us , they gotz the Ft. Pierce inlet in .... St. Lucie county ... LOL
They can all be dangerous , but Ft. Pierce has got to be the best . Between Gilligan's Island and Lil Jim's Pork sammich's ... hard to beat it ...

That's a single screw inboard diesel boat with the engine under the console..... already bow heavy. He should have stayed on the throttle and not let the bow drop. Ideally, should not have come in so hot and rode the back of a wave in................

Photo of Pecks Lake, just the other side, from the ocean, to the left. Pecks Reef just off the beach. Nice to dive. Stuart Inlet off in the distance, to the north. Click on the bar on top of the photo for fullsize photo.

Those waves aren’t going into shore. He couldnt ride in on the back side. Those are ebb tide ripples and stay right where they are as the tide rushes out. If he was on the back side, he’s be parked there till the tide changed haha. He should have hit those at an angle. His hull was perfect length peak to trough to peak.

Same inlet where a few yrs earlier a 50' (ish) sport fish got caught in a trough, hooked to starboard, tried to broach, threw captain from flybridge, bounced off side deck, into water and killed him.
Passenger on Bridge took over and saved boat.

Tourist on breakwall pixs of it in sequence.
    Very sad.

Been in exact situation before and needed vise grips to pull shorts from crack!

    Sebastian is as bad.
I remember driving over bridge first after moving there.
Was a full, outgoing tide and remember parking on top of bridge watching and saying to my wife, "no fkg way"!
At a steady tide we've been through many times in a 13' Whaler.

They do an annual clean up dive and they say they have about 15 mins
I signed up but never made it.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Gary you are right about Sebastion inlet we use to have a house 2 miles north of the inlet, an outgoing tide with an onshore wind and look out, I was coming in on the backside of a 10 foot wave with the throttle wide open and the wave behind me was slowly catching me I barely made it to the bridge when I fianally outran it, I saw 3 boats go down over the years in the same situation, while I was fishing the inlet. Yep.

Did that once coming into Sebastian in the 24' Sonic.
Tried staying between waves for fear of stuffing.
I remember being stunned when twin 250's wouldn't keep it on plane!

I think if you ever see the wave's breaking a big pipeline from shore out to sea .. your in one of those pre-tsunami times ....
Otherwise ... I hope you know , the waves continue to roll in , "even on an outgoing tide" ..

Incoming or outgoing , you always want to surf the back side . Last place you want to be is out front of all that water and you definitely don't want to be at an angle (stuffed+ turned, vid should be enough proof ) . Lots of people think they want to go outside the gate . They get just past the rocks then someone starts screaming turn around - turn around . Yea , in a great big loop. Did I say huge loop .. Been lots of people try to do a bat turn and get rolled over . It's pretty narrow and a lot of traffic going both ways , bad place for rookie shot callers ...

    FUJIMO :
Pecks Reef just off the beach. Nice to dive.
Yo Fuji , why ya bring my lobby stash inta this ...

If it were an outboard boat, he would have been able to keep the bow up, but being an inboard with a Volvo Penta that has marginal low end torque..... no chance of keeping the bow up.
