Need ideas for a light, short mid for a v4 crossflow

Slightly modded v4 going on a light allison, was going to use a standard clamp/trim and a 16 taylor mid...weighs about what the powerhead does.Anyone have anything or a good plan for a lighter setup, needs trim but not tilt...thanks,Chris

Great start! Are you going to use an exhaust snout out the back or a tuner to the LU? Trim ran inside jack/set back plates? Sorry about hi jack Chris....just had to ask! Gary

I don't think there are any easy solutions. But I recall there were some Mercury 12" midsections used under V4 crossflows in the old APBA Formula-V back when engine mods were more or less unrestricted. Believe they just milled a new exhaust adapter from solid that bolts to the powerhead but has the Mercury bolt pattern on the bottom side. Then either use a Merc SSM or adapt a shiftable using the normal methods.

Back in the day, we shortened my Allison 16 V4 mid by 7.5". I plan to rebuild it over this winter and re-fabricating all the transom and swivel parts. This is a lot of work. I don't know of anyone doing this commercially.

Like was said above no real easy/cheap/light way out. A cut down omc mid isn't that heavy, make a sheet metal/angle mount bracket/jack plate with a trim cyl and a pump in the boat. For a v4 you could probably go with 3/8 instead of 1/2 on most of the pieces or do some custom milling lighten it up a bit, that will get rid of the heavy oem mount brackets and a big heavy jack plate made for a v6. yes the tuner will go out the rear not thru the LU. Trim cyl is inside the set back plates. Didn't want to go thru the transom if I could avoid it but I'll do it if necessary to make it run and handle right

I make mine using a 5-6 inch set back 2 piece jack plate with a merc 70s-80s trim ram with home made brackets for swivel bracket and transom to mount the ram and the pump in boat.Works great and raced it in formula-v mod for 4 yrs with out one single issue, but the draw back is trim only no tilt but was not an issue for me.

If I come across a donor crossflow mid this winter I thinking of doing a 12 inch just for something to do {long winter in mn} even with my 15 inch I was still 3 inches above transom on my 15 ft pacecraft and 16 ft allison
